Nobody tells you when you have a baby that you will end up with a slew of car seats strewn throughout your whole garage. As the child grows so does the car seat. Well since there is not a magical car seat that will work from birth until age 8 you will need to purchase multiple car seats! And what do you do with those car seats when you are finished with them? Well, I put mine on a shelf in the garage thinking – “Oh, when so and so comes we will have an extra!” or “I’m saving this in case we have another child.” Now SIX car seats later and a cluttered garage I thought it was time to purge. But where?
Car seats expire. Selling them is really not an option. Most people won’t buy a used car seat. And as a mom I probably wouldn’t buy one. Unless I know you and I know that seat has never been in an accident I’m probably going to skip right over your for sale ad. Donating them is not an option either. With all the recalls and various expiration dates and liability charitable organizations won’t take them. So now what?
Babies R Us will take them! Twice a year, Babies R Us does a big recycling event. Starting September 1st through the 30th you can take in any old car seat and receive a 25% discount good towards a new one! It’s a great way to declutter your home or recycle those expired car seats. And if you don’t need the coupon you do not have to take it. Or you could give it to someone who that is expecting their first child.
How did I find out about this? Well if you are reader you know we’ve been going through a remodel this summer. It’s finally coming to an end! And with that we are looking around and realizing that there are tons of items we no longer need laying around the house, basement and garage. So, I am going room by room and slowly working on getting rid of things we no longer need. And since winter is creeping up on us the first areas to be cleaned are the garage and outside. When I started to place all the car seats on one shelf I quickly realized just how many we had. Then I started to research where I could get rid of them at. After calling a few places I finally called Babies R Us. I figured they sell them they should know where to recycle them. That’s when they told me about this event. So I showed up with all my old car seats! A whole SUV worth of seats now recycled in an environmentally friendly way.
So if you have some old car seats laying around, gather them up and take them over to Babies R Us! Now through September 30th they will take them off your hands.
