Do you have a little one that has a hard time falling a sleep? I know I do! Some nights, Peyton fights going to be bed with a passion. For her, she doesn’t want to stop playing or watching a show because she’s afraid she is going to miss something. I think this is common with lots of little ones. Getting them settled down for bedtime can be a challenge. Time for Bed, Sleepyhead by Daniel G. Amen, M.D. helps to calm little ones little minds and bodies through the power of suggestion.
As you are reading Time for Bed, Sleepyhead it’s suggested you start the story out at a faster pace and with excitement. As the story moves on, start to slow down the pace and lower your voice. You’ll notice your child getting sleepy! Dr. Amen does suggest this is not a safe book to read when in the car or in ear shot of someone driving.
I’ve read the book a few times to Peyton just to see if I could get her to fall a sleep by the end of the book. While Peyton does seem much more relaxed by the end of the book I have not successfully put her to sleep by the end of the book. But, she is more willing to settle down and go to bed! So for me, that’s a win.
Time for Bed, Sleepyhead follows Little Bears toys getting ready to go for a day at the beach. Little Bear imagines them getting ready for day trip and how they have to load up the car, drive to the beach and all the fun they will have. It’s a really cute story. Every kid wonders what their toys do when they fall a sleep. And now they can imagine all the fun the toys have. As the toys are heading home, each one falls a sleep. The goal is by the end of the book your little one will be a sleep too.
It’s a very cute story. I can definitely tell there is a difference in Peyton’s mood and energy levels when we are done reading. Maybe if I had started this book with her when she was younger it may have worked better. I think the biggest hurdle to a good night’s sleep is a routine. This is a relaxing book to finish off your nightly routine with.
