It’s almost been 6 years since I found out I was pregnant with my precious daughter, Peyton. As every first time parents does I spent the pregnancy wondering if my baby would be ok. Would she have any health issues. I prayed for a healthy, beautiful child. When Peyton was born, she appeared to be the picture of health but I was still worried until we had that first checkup appointment and got the news she was as healthy as any newborn could be. But for some parents that’s not the news they get. Whether it’s at the first checkup or twenty checkups down the road. Some parents have to receive the news their precious child has an illness or disease that is life threatening. Just the thought of this brings tears to my eyes. And then for a family to find out both of their daughters have a life threatening disease has to be overwhelming. That’s what happened to the Gray family.
Charlotte Gray was diagnosed earlier this year with Batten disease. A disease that will one day take her sight and either reduce or make mobility not a reality for her. Children with Batten disease usually succumb to the disease between 6-12 years of age. While she is doing well now there are tough days ahead for this little girl. Her younger sister Gwen also carries the gene for Batten disease but is not currently showing symptoms. There is no cure for Batten disease. But we can help change that.
Munchkin has stepped up to help too. From June 17-June 28, 100% of all proceeds purchased from www.munchkin.com will support the Charlotte and Gwenyth Gray Foundation. How can we all help? Well check your around your house and cupboards. Do you need some gates? Do you need some sippy cups? Toddler plates and silverware? Anything for a baby shower? Once you have an idea of things you need to purchase head over to Munchkin and order it. They will deliver it right to your door. The proceeds from your purchase will go to the Charlotte and Gwyneth Gray Foundation where it will be used to help find a cure for Batten disease. If you cannot think of anything you need to purchase but would still like to help you can donate directly to the Charlotte and Gwyneth Gray Foundation. Either way, let’s help find a cure for Batten disease so these little girls can grow up, go to college, become whatever they dream to be. Let’s give them a chance.
