There are several new and tasty treat to be found at the state fair this next week. The first one I tried out was the Salted Caramel Puff Malt. From the looks of it I wasn’t too sure. There is malt at the bottom covered with corn puffs and drizzled with caramel. Nothing fancy. But wow! The combination is great! The salt and caramel combined with the ice cream is delicious. I highly recommend this tasty treat. You can find it in the Dairy Building. The Midwest Dairy Association did a fabulous job coming up with this combination.
Next up was a family favorite of mine. I love having this treat at summer BBQs and was surprised no one had brought it to the fair sooner. Grandma Deb’s Snicker Bar Salad is a Minnesota staple at any summer BBQ I have attended. Green apples, Snicker bars, caramel sauce and a mouse/pudding tossed together in a bowl and call it a salad. You won’t be disappointed by this. It is very sweet so I’d save it as a desert for you day. This yummy treat can be found The Blue Barn located in the west end market.
Just when I thought I had tried all the sweets at the table next up was the Maple Bacon Funnel Cake. Not in a million years would I have tried this one. But since it was in front of me I decided to give it a try. And boy was I glad I did. Never would I thought these flavor combinations would come together and it taste so good! The bacon funnel cake is drizzled with a maple frosting, crumbled bacon, a little whipped cream and a cherry on top. This one would be hard to share. It’s so good I could see myself wanting to keep it all for myself. This amazing funnel cake can be found at Funnel Cakes in the Food Building along the East wall.
Totchos! Oh WOW!! If you love tater tots and nachos then you don’t want to miss this one. It takes the best of both worlds and brings them together in a wonderful dish called totchos. Tater tots covered in all the delicious nacho fixings. I think everyone will love this one. Even little kids can customize the totchos to their preference. Chicken or beef can be added too. You can thank Boulevard Grill for bringing these two dishes together and find them in the Coliseum.
The Mac & Cheese cupcake was different. LuLu’s takes a kid favorite and gives it a twist. You can now take Mac & Cheese and eat it with your hands with no mess! LuLu’s Public House is located in the West Market.
If you are a pizza lover then you are going to love the Grilled Venetian Style Pizza by Mancini’s Al Fresco. Mancini’s Al Fresco takes a delicate pizza crust and covers it with a creamy sauce and real toppings. Fresh veggies are visible! You can find this delicious dish at North side of Carnes Ave. between Nelson & Underwood.
With all these yummy foods you may need to attend the fair more than once to take them all in! And now for the music. I was given a 4 pack of tickets to The Avett Brothers (with special guest Preservation Hall Jazz Band) this Saturday night, September 5th at 7:30 pm! What could be better than spending the day eating some new and exciting fair foods and then taking in a night of live music? So keep and reading and enter below for you chance to win.
