My daughter and I like to cook and we enjoy trying out new kitchen products. We really enjoy using unique products that will make cooking fun and interesting. When I was asked if I would like to try out the Retseliney Vegetable Spiral Slicer in exchange for an honest and unbiased review I said sure. It looked like it would be fun and that is one of my kitchen requirements. I want items that are fun and functional.
When the spiral slicer arrived I looked it over. It appeared fairly easy to use. It’s cylinder shape similar to an hourglass. There are two different widths of spirals you can make depending on the side you choose to you use. *SAFETY DISCLOSURE* there are sharp blades. DO NOT stick your fingers inside the slicer. Please only use a brush or some other object if you must. But do not use your fingers. You will cut them.
Now that I have inspected the slicer it was time to try it out with some veggies. I headed over to my fridge and the only thing I had were carrots. So I washed them up and tried out the slicer. I found it very difficult to spiral slice my carrots but I think it was me. The carrots were not very thick and may have been sitting in the fridge a while making them hard and dried out. I really had to work at it to get even the tiniest of shavings. I was really disappointed but I was not giving up. Instead I headed to the store and picked up some zucchini. The zucchini spiraled much easier. Lesson learned was not to use rock hard vegetables. The slicer is only as good as the produce you use. If you use old, crappy produce you will get crappy results. If you use fresh vegetable you will get great results.
