on my child to really have an effect. A quality sun screen can be costly and when you are using the appropriate amount you do fly through it. So I can understand why people try to use what they think is enough and really it is not. If you not apply a shot glass size amount to your body then you are not using enough. And you need to reapply throughout the day and every time you get out of the water. I am a skin cancer survivor and I am diligent about making sure my daughter is always wearing a high quality sun screen with no lower than an SPF of 30.
After reading my little rant you can will know no one had to ask me twice to try out a sunscreen that was made for kids. I was eager to try it out. My daughter wears sunscreen nearly every single day from spring to fall and she wears a hat and glasses when out. In the winter I apply it to her face and hands if we are going sledding.
When the Sun’n’Fun sunscreen arrived the first thing I noticed was the size. I like it for a day trip but honestly this bottle will last me maybe a weekend at most. So I hope they make larger sizes for parents that understand the amount to be applied and the rule of reapplying and how frequent it needs to be done.
When I went to apply some sunscreen to my daughter the first thing I noticed was the fragrance. It did not smell at all like sunscreen. It smelled like a treat. I will have no problem getting my daughter to wear this! Infact she kept coming back all day asking when we could reapply. So I appreciated it for that. So the scent was a pro in the sense it made my daughter want to wear. But it is also a con. We camp a lot. We hike a fair amount. I would not use this sunscreen when doing either of those. It would attract bugs and not sure how safe it would be to go to bed smelling like a chocolate bar. I really do not need any hungry wild life trying to eat my child.
I’m really torn on this sunscreen. There are great things about it and I do like it more than not. For us I believe this will be her school sunscreen. That way I will know for sure if they actually use it. Everyday when I pick her up from school she should smell like a chocolate bar!
