Who took in a movie this weekend? Did any of you see The Secret Life of Pets? Peyton and I saw it last week and loved it!
The basic story line behind The Secret Life of Pets is this – Max’s owner decides to adopt another dog, Duke. Max is not fond of Duke and he sets out on a mission to get rid of Duke. But Duke figures it out and he decides to try and get rid of Max! While they are busy trying to get rid of one another they end up losing their collars and on the run from the dog catchers.
While Max and Duke are on the run, Gidget (their neighbor), notices Max is missing. Gidget gets all of Max’s friends together to look for him.
The movie follows Gidget and the group through the city, looking for Max and Duke. We also see Max and Duke trying to get home.
Peyton giggled through a lot of the movie. She completely enjoyed it. There was one part that was a little intense for her. I don’t want to give away the whole story but Max and Duke do encounter a snake named Viper. That scene was a little much for Peyton. But other than that I thought the movie was pretty good for kids.
There is the mild language of name calling like stupid, dumb, weirdo and cry baby. But I did not feel it was any more than she would see sitting home and watching Saturday morning cartoons. Peyton knows that language is not acceptable at home so I’m not worried about her being exposed to it.
I do think this movie could help kids relate to step-siblings or a new baby. It would be a great way to discuss sibling conflict using Max and Duke as examples.
We really enjoyed The Secret Life of Pets. I thought it was a nice way to spend an evening with my little one. I will definitely be adding it to our collection when it comes out on DVD.
The Secret Life of Pets is in theaters nationwide. Check your local theater for show times.
