5 Ideas for Game Night with the Kids

Game night with the kids is not only incredibly fun but it’s an important bonding time for the family. Many families choose to have family time out at restaurants or in the mall but this can become expensive. Game night at home can be just as fun but much cheaper. Here are 5 ideas for game night with the kids that will have you all laughing and enjoying some quality time together.

1) Pictionary

This drawing and guessing game never fails to keep the family entertained! People’s attempts to draw are hilarious and will have everybody in stitches. The game is very simple, one person thinks of something to draw and as they start drawing it the other players must try to guess what it is. You can play the game as individuals or teams.

It’s best to try to use a whiteboard with a marker and pen so you can save on paper. If you want, you can buy the official Pictionary game for about $30 from Hasbro.

2) Trivia

Everybody loves trivia! Create some teams and find a set of trivia questions that suit your family. Common choices include Harry Potter or Disney trivia questions and answers. Whatever your family is into, you will be sure to find a set of trivia questions online. You can print the questions and answers out, select teams and have a quiz master. Create a competition to make it really fun with a prize for the team who gets the most answers correct. Include some snacks and refreshments to create the perfect night of family fun.

3) Charades

An absolute family classic and for good reason. Charades is a fantastic game to get all your family thinking creatively and expressing themselves in a fun way. You will be rolling with laughter watching your kids act out words or names of films. It’s also hugely beneficial to your kid’s development allowing them to build confidence standing and performing in front of people.

4) Heads Up! Kids

This is the kid’s version of the hugely popular guessing game app available on smartphones. The game is really simple, fun and engaging! Taking in turns, each person loads a new game that displays an animal or action once the phone is held on the person’s forehead with the screen facing the other players. The others must then try to give them clues as to what image or action is on the screen using sounds, words, and actions before the time runs out!

The app is available via the Google or Apple Store on most smartphones.

5) Minute to Win It

Based on the famous TV game show, players must complete exciting and fun challenges using items from around the house within the one-minute time limit. Challenges can include things like:

  • Throwing a ball of paper in the trash bin, how many balls can you get in one minute.
  • Build a penny tower, who can build the highest without it falling.
  • Speed Jenga, how many pieces can you take out in one minute without it falling.

Minute to Win It game ideas are endless and you can change them up each and every time keeping it fun and varied.
