5 Things You Need to Be Drive-In Ready

The snow is moving out and spring is right around the corner. With the arrival of spring means the Drive-Ins will be opening soon.  Peyton and I like to go to the drive-in as much as possible once it opens. There’s nothing like sitting in your car, for us it’s our Dodge Journey, and watching a movie. Plus all the fun that goes on before the movies begin! Today, we are going to share some of our favorite things we bring with us to the Drive-In each summer.

Dodge Journey Drive In NightBlankets

Lots and lots of blankets. We like to put our back seat down and lay in the cargo area to watch the movie. But, the cargo area can be really hard and uncomfortable. One way we counter the hard surface is by putting down a lot of blankets. Put enough blankets down and now it’s like a pillow of softness to sprawl out on while you watch your triple feature.

Pillows

Along with those blankets you’ll need some pillows. Depending on your vehicle you may only need a couple. For us, we have found we need lots. Since we are in the cargo area and have the seat down there is a gap we need to fill between the front seat and the cargo area. We fill that gap with pillows.

Bug Spray

You will want to bring some mosquito repellant. From personal experience, these little fellas are out in force once the sun starts to go down. If you plan on keeping your windows down or trunk open you’ll want to be protected. And if the kids are going to run around and play outside while you wait for the first movie to start you’ll want mosquito spray then too.

Dodge Journey Drive In NightSnacks

BRING SNACKS. Lots and lots of snacks. Some drive-ins have a snack bar and some don’t. So it’s best to bring your own in. Plus you’ll be sure to have all your favorites if you bring them with you. Our favorite thing to bring with us to the drive-in is a bucket of chicken, which we eat before the movie starts while we are hanging out with everyone, popcorn, chips, assorted candy and some grapes. I also bring a cooler of drinks too. If the cooler is the right size we stick it behind the driver’s seat to help fill that gap I was talking about earlier.

Radio

One drawback to our Journey is that it shuts off after 20 minutes. So, if you are at the drive-in you have to get up every 20 minutes and hit the start button again. One way around this is to just bring a battery operated radio with you and listen to the movie that way.

These are just a few of the tips I have to enjoy your family outing to the drive-in.
