I just earned the coolest mom ever award! Yep, according to Peyton I am the coolest mom. There is no one cooler than me. I am also the best mom ever too. My day couldn’t get any better. So I bet you are probably wondering how you too can earn this amazing award. Well, it’s simple. On your lunch break run over to Nadia Cakes and pick up 7 gourmet April Fools Day cupcakes. But since it’s late in the day you’ll have to put it on your calendar for next year.
Nadia Cupcakes offered 7 different cupcakes this year for April Fools. I had seen them online and heard about them from my daughter non stop for the last month. So today on lunch I decided to stop by and pick one of each up. I thought I would surprise Peyton with a little impromptu taste testing.
A Vanilla Bean tie dyed cupcake topped with green colored vanilla icing like grass and fondant unicorn poop.
The unicorn poop cupcake is super cute! Great imagination went into creating this one. But there really was not much flavor at all. I was a tad disappointed in the taste but I loved the look. Peyton wasn’t crazy about the cupcake but she loved the grass.
Sand Cupcake
A vanilla bean cupcake topped with vanilla frosting and “sand” with a sugar seashell.
Peyton nearly tackled the sugar seashell. She gobbled that up in a second. The sand seemed to just be colored sugar sprinkles on top of the frosting. Peyton liked it. I thought it was good. It’s funny how it’s the same base as the unicorn cupcake but this one tasted so much better. I’m thinking it’s all the dye that was in the first one. The sand cupcake was a nice light cupcake.
Bowl of Chili Cupcake
Chocolate cupcake with caramel frosting, jelly beans, caramel drizzle and sea salt.
I was not sure what to expect with this one. It looked exactly like a bowl of chili. Peyton just wanted the little spoon to eat with. So she stole the spoon and ate the cupcake with that. I was a little more refined and used a fork. The cupcake itself was good, very chocolatey. I was hesitant on the jelly beans but the combination of jelly beans, drizzle, frosting and cupcake really went well together. Peyton just picked off the beans and ate them one by one until she came across one she didn’t like. Then it was time to move on to the next cupcake.
Dog Food Cupcake
Chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting and Reese’s Pieces cereal and a fondant dog bone on top.
Another one I was not sure what to expect. I thought the cereal would be hard and crunchy but it wasn’t. It was a little softer probably from all the moisture in the cupcake and frosting. Peyton went straight for the dog bone and gobbled it up. I fed a piece of cereal to our dog Finnegan. He seemed to enjoy it. This was a great cupcake. All the flavors worked really well together. If you are chocolate peanut butter lover I think you would enjoy this one. I really did.
Kitty Litter Cupcake
Chocolate cupcake with vanilla bean frosting and a chocolate cat poopie on top.
I was teasing Peyton all evening with this one. I waited for her to eat half the cat poop then when she gave it to me to try I took a nibble, spit it out and said “Oh my gosh! I think they made a mistake and used real cat poop!” The look on her face was priceless!! She could not wipe that chocolate out of her mouth fast enough. After we were done laughing we actually tried the cupcake. It was good. The chocolate cupcake was moist and very chocolate and the vanilla bean frosting went well with it.
Snow Cone Cupcake
Strawberry cupcake with vanilla bean frosting that has been sprayed with color.
Peyton was excited when she saw this one because her favorite summer treat is a snow cone. When we tried our first bite I was surprised about the strawberry. All the other cupcakes had been chocolate or vanilla so it was nice to have something completely different. Peyton really enjoyed the strawberry cupcake and pretty much ate it all. The presentation of this cupcake was amazing. It really did look like a mini snow cone.
Spaghetti & Meatballs Cupcake
White cake with (i think) cream cheese frosting a Ferrero Rochelle dipped in raspberry preserve.
Peyton was not sure what to think of this meatball. She cautiously took it off the cupcake and licked the raspberry off. She was not crazy about it. But then she attacked the white cupcake. By far her favorite of all the cupcake bases. Since this was our last cupcake I was pretty much cupcaked out but I was impressed. It tasted good and was moist. Another great cupcake.
If I had to choose one cupcake as my favorite it would be the dog food. Peyton could not decide. She loved the look of the Unicorn cupcake. the cake on the spaghetti & meatball and the frosting on the dog food the best. This was definitely a fun way to spend our April Fools together.
