It looks like it is either going to be extremely hot this weekend or storming, either way, it’s not looking good for outside activities. But that’s ok! Cars 3 opens in theaters nationwide today. So, if you are looking for something to do this weekend with your little one head to a theater nearby.
Peyton and I saw the movie a few days ago and LOVED it! We’re big fans of all the cars movies. Cars 3 is a little different than other cars movies. In the first Cars movie, we met Lightning McQuinn when he was just starting out learning to race. In Cars 2 we really saw Lightning McQueen come into his own as a racer. And now, in Cars 3, we see that Lightning McQuinn has gotten older and it may be time for him to retire!
Can you believe that? Lightning McQueen retiring?!? There is a new generation of cars and they are faster and sleeker. The technology has changed and there’s a new car on the race track, Jackson Storm, that is winning it all. In the final race of the season, Storm and McQueen are battling it out in the Piston Cup track, both trying to take first place. McQueen ends up spinning out and ending the race with a rollover crash. Many thought it was over for McQueen. But it wasn’t.
McQueen’s sponsors took him to a training facility where he met Cruz Ramirez, she helped get him back in racing shape and return to the Piston Cup for a rematch with Jackson Storm. But along the way, there were some interesting twists and turns.
Cars 3 is just as good as the first Cars. Both Peyton and I were entertained and engrossed in the film. There’s a lot of messages in Cars 3 that little ones need to hear. Like, never give up. Even though McQueen had a major, scary accident he went back. He raced again. And we see throughout the film how he deals with the stress, insecurities, and struggles at times with racing again. That’s a really wonderful lesson for little ones to see.

I love Cruz Ramirez, she reminds me of the little engine that could. She never gives up on her dream and she never listened to anyone that told her she couldn’t do it. Another great lesson for kids to hear.
Cars 3 is a full of positive encouragement that can help kids navigate the disappointments they experience while growing up. But they be so entertained by the movie they won’t even realize they are learning! But they will. You’ll see when they come across a similar situation in their own lives how they will apply what McQueen, Ramirez, Doc or one of the many other characters reacted and how they handled it.
Cars 3 is now in theaters nationwide. Check your local theater for showtimes.
