Create the Perfect Reading Nook

Reading is extremely important. But, sometimes getting a young child to read can be a challenge. I have found that if I give Peyton a little space all her own and fill it with books and comfy spot to sit she seems to gravitate towards it and read. Yes, read! So I’m going to tell you how to create the perfect reading nook.

Peyton's Reading NookFirst, find a good spot. I like to use the corner of our living room, that way I can keep an eye on Peyton and if she gets stuck on a word help her out. You want to find a space that is somewhat quiet, so they do not get distracted but at the same time, you do not want to isolate them. So the corner of our living room is perfect! I can see her while I’m cooking and if I am working on the computer she is just a few feet away.

Now that you have the perfect space you need the perfect chair. Peyton loves her Brentwood Home Venice Lounger. It’s perfect for relaxing in and reading a book, or two or three. I love the Venice Lounger because it’s made with gel memory foam. That means that unlike traditional bean bags the Venice Lounger will never flatten out. It’s gel memory foam so it will conform to your child’s body while sitting on it but it will bounce back once they get up.

And the third thing you need is a basket full of books! I like to keep a basket full next to Peyton’s Venice Lounger. I switch out the books every week so she never gets bored with the selection.

Brentwood Home venice LoungerI’ve been using a reading nook with Peyton for a few weeks now and I can tell the difference in her reading abilities. She is becoming a much stronger reader and she likes to read out loud to me while I am cooking dinner. It’s funny how one little reading nook has had such a positive impact on our family. Peyton is a stronger reader because she loves to sit in her nook on her Venice Lounger and read. She is becoming a more confident reader by reading out loud to me. And we are spending more quality time together because she is reading to me while I am cooking so we are interacting.

The Venice Lounger is also perfect for playing video games or adding some seating to a room. Brentwood Home uses the same gel memory foam in their mattresses, loungers and pet beds. And we are giving away the same Venice Lounger that Peyton has to one of our readers! Hurry up and enter below.
