On our recent trip to the Chicago area, we chose to stay at the Country Inn in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. We frequently visit the Chicago area and have discovered staying in a suburb is a nice option for our family. It’s only a short drive to go into the city but the benefits of staying outside the city far outweigh the drive.
First, you don’t have to pay for parking in the suburbs! Did you know parking your vehicle at a Chicago hotel can cost over $50 a day? That adds up fast. Country Inn and Suites does not charge you to park on property.
Another feature we love about Country Inn and Suites is the friendly staff. They are always right there to help and get you anything you may need. Plus, they have fresh cookies and coffee in the lobby at all times!
This year, Peyton’s school is pushing daily reading. They expect the kids to read at least 20 minutes a day if not longer. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the extensive collection of children’s books available for check out in the Country Inn lobby. It was full of titles Peyton would enjoy reading. And we did take advantage of it! We checked out a book and Peyton got her reading time in each day.
I appreciate hotels that have mini fridges and microwaves in the room. When you are traveling with kids there is always going to be a time that one of them are hungry and nothing is open. Or you go to a nice restaurant and want to bring the leftovers back to enjoy later. At the Country Inn, we did just that! I had brought a few easy macs and beverages with us. I was able to make Peyton easy mac anytime of the day she pleased. And our beverages were nice and cold in the mini-fridge.
Did you know the Country Inn serves a complimentary HOT breakfast for all guests? And it’s pretty impressive. They have everything from a pastry bar, to a cereal bar, to hot oatmeal with all the fixings, a make your own waffle station and a hot option every morning. Sometimes it was scrambled eggs, sausage links and potatoes and sometimes it’s a make your own breakfast sandwich or something else. It’s nice knowing you can walk down to the eatery and make your family breakfast. You can enjoy it there or take it back to your room. Whatever works best for your family.
There is a little courtyard that you can enjoy your breakfast or morning coffee in too. However, it was pretty chilly and rainy when we were visiting so we stayed inside. It’s also a great option to get takeout from one of the nearby restaurants and bring it back there and enjoy. There are a few eateries in walking distance (they share the same parking lot) that have options for dining in or getting takeout.
Peyton enjoyed a little time in the hot tub and pool before we headed out to the dinner one evening. There is also a fully equipped workout space for guests to enjoy. But remember to bring your room key, you’ll need to it access both of these amenities.
Our stay at the Country Inn in Elk Grove, Illinois was wonderful. We were a short drive from the attractions we wanted to visit – Shedd Aquarium, Lincoln Park Zoo and Medieval Times. And we stayed at a family-friendly establishment that really understands families. They get it that kids need a place to roam and play. They understand and support the importance of literacy and daily reading no matter your age or where you may be by providing a little library stocked with books for every reading level. And they are always a phone call away to help make your stay more pleasant.
