The world is pretty different today than when I booked this birthday party back in November 2019 for May 2020. Who would have ever thought we would be where we are today? I know it had never occurred to me that there would be a time we could not gather together due to a virus. Never. That’s exactly what did happen and is happening all over our world.
This is our third or fourth date to have Peyton’s birthday party. It was going to be an epic party! We have a beautiful pool in our backyard and typically we have pool birthday parties but in the last two years, the weather has not cooperated. So this year, I had planned on taking Peyton and three of her friends to Great Wolf Lodge to celebrate. That way, I knew the party would go on no matter what the weather was like, or so at least I thought.
See, I thought the weather was the only thing that would cancel my daughter’s birthday party. Now I know I was wrong. COVID-19 can cancel it too. Several times.
Our celebration weekend is almost here and I cannot wait to take the girls for the weekend they will never forget at Great Wolf Lodge! This time, there are going to be a few extras in my bag as we head off for a fun-filled weekend and I’m going to share them with you.
We all know kids are not the best at washing their hands. It’s just a fact. And with the times that we are in right now, I don’t want the girls sharing the same bar soap to wash their hands. So I am packing a foaming soap with us to keep in the hotel room. I’m also making sure it’s a fun scent that the girls will like. I’m hoping that will help encourage them to use hand soap and wash their hands often while we are in the hotel room.
I’ve always had a germ phobia of hotel rooms but now I make sure I have items that’ll kill all germs. I am also packing a canister of disinfecting wipes so I can wipe down countertops and tables when we first walk in the room. I just want to be sure there is nothing on them before the girls start setting their personal belongings and food down.
I’m also bringing a plastic table cloth to put down where I am going to set up the food buffet. This is a dual purpose. First, it’s to make sure the food is on a clean and sanitary space. Second, it’ll help make cleanup a snap.
And lastly, I am bringing spare masks for everyone in our group. I have kid-size disposable facemasks for the girls and adult for me. That way, we can all wear a mask while we are in the common areas.
I feel with the extra precautions I am taking and the extra cleaning protocols that Great Wolf Lodge has put in place, the girls and I are going to be safe. We are going to be able to celebrate Peyton’s birthday and enjoy our weekend getaway!
