June Summer Reading for First Graders

First grade is an exciting time for our children. They started learning to read in kindergarten and now, in first grade, they are starting to read books on their own. This list of books is perfect for the beginner to read to us! Or you can read to them. Or take turns reading to each other.

Mac and Cheese by Sarah Weeks

Mac loves to run and play, but Cheese likes lazy lounging. When Mac’s hat blows away, will Cheese sit there like a lump or spring into action to save it?

Mac and Cheese is a Level One I Can Read book, which means it’s perfect for children learning to sound out words and sentences.

The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes by Mark Pett & Gary Rubinstein

Beatrice Bottomwell has NEVER (not once!) made a mistake. She never forgets her math homework, she never wears mismatched socks, and she ALWAYS wins the yearly talent show at school. In fact, the entire town calls her The Girl Who Never Makes Mistakes! One day, the inevitable happens: Beatrice makes a huge mistake in front of everyone! But in the end, readers (and perfectionists) will realize that life is more fun when you enjoy everything―even the mistakes.
