I remember growing up and having a large collection of My Little Pony. Gosh, I loved those little horses! I still have the My Little Pony Barn and Peyton plays with it from time to time too! But like with everything from my childhood, they are bringing it back and making it even better for the next generation. Today, My Little Pony The Movie was released on Blu-ray and DVD. Now the next generation can enjoy My Little Pony just like mine did.
Here’s the movie jacket breakdown –
Best friends Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Rarity team up in their most epic adventure yet! This new installment of the global phenomenon features the Mane 6 voices of “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” accompanied by Golden Globe® winner Emily Blunt (Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy, Into the Woods, 2015), Primetime Emmy® winner Kristin Chenoweth (Best Supporting Actress, “Pushing Daisies,” 2009), Golden Globe® nominee Liev Schreiber (Best Actor in a TV Series – Drama, “Ray Donovan,” 2017), Michael Peña (The Martian, Ant-Man franchise), Sia, Taye Diggs (Chicago, “Private Practice”), Golden Globe® nominee Uzo Aduba (Best Supporting Actress – Television, “Orange Is the New Black,” 2016), and Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy franchise).
When a dark force threatens Ponyville, the Mane 6 go on a journey beyond Equestria to save their beloved home and they meet new friends and exciting challenges along the way.
Here’s what we thought –
The kids loved it! It held both Peyton (age 7) and my niece’s (age 2) attention. Peyton followed the storyline better because she’s older but both girls really enjoyed watching the movie. And as a mom, I even enjoyed watching it. I feel My Little Pony is always teaching the values that kids need to see reinforced time and time again. The value of friendship is repeated in every episode. While it’s not always talked about it is always seen and I appreciate that. The My Little Pony gang always demonstrates how to be a good friend, you can fight, you can argue but they always make up in the end.
What’s different in this My Little Pony story than most of the other’s we’ve seen is there are other animals than Ponies! Taye Diggs is the voice of Capper, a savvy streetwise cat. And we even spend some time underwater with the Mane 6 becoming mer-ponies! I think this adds a new feel to the My Little Pony stories.
