Mysterio Inspired Cupcakes

October 2, 2019 By Shanna Leave a Comment

You all know that Spider-Man Far From Home came out this week. If you haven’t, you’ll want to head over to your local retailer and pick up a copy. And then, you’ll want to pick up everything to make these awesome Mysterio Inspired Cupcakes, first seen on AsTheBunnyHops.com. I have made a few little tweaks to them that I will list out below, PLUS I’m giving you the full shopping list with links to purchase the harder to find items.

You will need the following –

1 Box Cake Mix – any cake mix and everything needed to make the mix
24 Gold Cupcake Liners
24 Plastic Ornaments
Blue Cotton Candy
Red Fondant
Blue Food Gel Coloring
2 sticks Butter, softened
2 C Powdered Sugar
2 tsp Vanilla Extract
Cupcake Pan

First, you are going to make and bake your cupcakes according to the cake mix instructions. You should get 24 cupcakes from box of cake mix. Once they are baked, set them aside to cool. You will want to let them cool for at least 30 minutes before you start frosting them.

While the cupcakes are cooling now is the time to make the Mystery ornaments filled with cotton candy. First, take the ornament apart and wash them with soap and water. Be sure to dry them thoroughy otherwise, your cotton candy will start to crystallize and dissolve.  One the ornament is dry, fill it with little pieces of the cotton candy.  If you can find fresh cotton candy it will be fluffy and will take less to fill the ornament. Once your ornaments are stuffed set them aside.

Now it’s time t make the frosting.  With a stand mixer, beat the softened butter until it’s whipped. Then, gradually add in 2 cups of powdered sugar until the frosting is the desired consistency. Add in 2 tsp of vanilla extract and you are ready to do some frosting.

This is where AsTheBunnyHops.com and I do things differently. She cuts off the top of the cupcake and makes a little whole for the ornament to sit on before she frosts. I don’t. I like to use a 1M Wilton piping tip and frost each cupcake so the ornament can sit in the frosting.  You can do it either way, whichever you prefer.

Once the cupcakes are frosted, place the ornament filled with cotton candy on top.

Next up, making Mysterio’s cape! Take the red fondant and add a few drops of blue food coloring, the gel works best. Knead it together until the colors combine. Now, dust the counter with a little powdered sugar and roll the fondant out. Cut out large squares or rectangles and attach to the cupcake, this is the cape.

Mysterio CupcakesAnd you’re done! You have Mysterio Cupcakes!

Be sure to pick up your copy of Spider-Man Far From Home next time you are at the store or you can order it on demand.
