These are the cutest cookies! I really appreciate the simplicity of these cookies making them great for little ones wanting to help out in the kitchen. Since there is no stove or oven it’s a perfect afternoon activity for preschoolers. Though I will admit that it is a bit messy or at least it can be messy if you have little ones helping out.
To make these Oreo Love Bug Cookies you’ll need the following –
Oreo Cookies
Candy Eyes
Pink Sugar
Red Sugar
Pink Chocolate Wafers
Red Chocolate Wafers
This recipe moves fairly quickly so I highly suggest laying everything out.
First, cover your workspace with wax paper. Trust me, you want to do this. It’ll make clean up a snap and will also make it much easier to work with the “love bugs”.
Next, in two separate bowls pour some of the chocolate wafers. One bowl for pink, one bowl for red.
Chose the color you want to work with first and microwave it in 30-second intervals, be sure to stir your chocolate in between intervals. Once the chocolate is melted smooth you are ready to go!
While the chocolate is melting pour the colored sugar into two separate bowls or plates. One for pink and one for red.
Take an Oreo cookie, I used the winter Oreo cookies because they had red filling but you can use any Oreo you would like, dip 2/3 of the Oreo in the melted chocolate. Gently shake the excess off.
Roll the Oreo cookie in the matching sugar.
Lay on wax paper to set.
Take a toothpick and dab a little bit of chocolate on the back of an eye and place it on the Oreo cookie.
You’re done! You now have made your first Oreo Love Bug. Repeat the process until you have all the Oreo Love Bug you need or desire.
These make great teacher gifts. Place a few in Valentine’s package and they are all ready to gift!
