If you are looking for something to do for girls night, then look no further. Rough Night opens in theaters nationwide today and it’s a must see for girls night. I saw Rough Night a few weeks ago at a sneak peak. I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of a female version of the Hangover.
So the plot is an up and coming politician, Jess (Scarlett Johansson). She’s in the race for a state Senate position but she is also getting married! For her bachelorette party, she heads to Miami with her 3 college roommates and meets up with her college roommate from when she studied abroad. So it’s 5 ladies in Miami to have a wild bachelorette party. What could go wrong??
Well, for starters, they are staying in a home of one of Jess’s supporters. But that does not stop them from having a good time. Alice (Jillian Bell), Blair (Zoe Kravitz), and Frankie (Ilana Glazer) are the US roommates from college and they are ready to party! They want Jess to have an amazing party, and Alice has planned it all out. They start the evening with dinner, where Pippa (the overseas roommate) (Kate McKinnon)meets up with them. Instantly, you can tell there’s a little jealousy from Alice about Pippa and Jess’s relationship.
Fast forward to later in the evening and now they are all back at the beach house. When the doorbell rings. Everyone assumes someone ordered a stripper! So they let the strange man in that is ringing the doorbell. And during his stripper performance, Alice accidentally kills him. Oops! And then things get crazy.
You have the nosey, crazy, sex driven neighbors next door that just want to get everyone into a group orgy. There’s the dead stripper, that turns out not to be a stripper but actually a burglar. Then you have 2 armed gunmen looking for their buddy – the dead stripper/burglar. And you have the finance who is concerned Jess is calling off the wedding. Plus, the girls are trying to dispose of/hide/get rid of the body so they don’t get in trouble. Makes for one crazy evening!
Rough Night is a light comedy that you need to take at face value. It’s meant to be a laugh. It’s meant to entertain. Does it do this? Yes. Am I going to see it over and over again? No. But it’s perfect for a fun night out with the girls. Go have a nice dinner and a few cocktails. Or, find a theater that has cocktails! Then sit back and enjoy Rough Night with your besties. You’re gonna laugh.
