I grew up watching the SMURFS on Saturday mornings with my brother. We loved it. It was one of the few shows we could both agree on watching every Saturday. Three decades later and Smurfs are still going strong! Now I get to share my love of Smurfs with my daughter. This Friday, Smurfs The Lost Village will open up nationwide in theaters everywhere. Peyton and I took in an early preview this past weekend.
This was our first time seeing a Smurfs movie on the big screen. And for Peyton I think it was her first real exposure to Smurfs. She has seen the cute, adorable blue characters in passing but this was her first time really watching them. I was eager to see what she was going to think.
Peyton immediately became captivated with Smurfette. When Smurfette came on the screen I heard Peyton say, “OOOOOOO, she has a pretty dress! I want a dress just like that!” I knew she was hooked.
While many Smurfs are in the movie, the focus is really on Smurfette, Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty. The Lost Village opens up with Smurfette, Brainy Clumsy and Hefty having an adventure out in the forest. Just as they are about to head home Gargamel spots them and sends his crazy bird to try and catch them. As they are running for safety, Smurfette sees a blue blur run into the forbidden forest. Smurfette is caught!
The boys launch a rescue mission to get Smurfette back from Gargamel’s castle. But while Smurfette is Gargamel’s prisoner she accidentally shares the location of the hidden village. Gargamel sets out with his cat, Azrael and his giant bird, Monty to find the hidden village. He wants to capture all the Smurfs and use them in a spell.s Now it’s up to Smurfette. Brainy. Hefty and Clumsy to find the lost village first and warn them.
Smurfs is a cute story for the whole family. Peyton and I both enjoyed the film. We watched the Smurfs journey through the Forbidden Forest on their way to save the lost Smurfs. We saw them outsmart and outrun Gargamel and his crew. Definitely a show for all ages. If your child can sit through an hour and a half show then they will be able to sit through the Smurfs. There’s plenty of action to keep the youngest one’s attention.
Smurfs is already showing in theaters around me. And will be open all over by this weekend. Check your local theater for showtimes.
