The Rookie Season 3 Premiere

Wow! Now that was a jam-packed The Rookie season 3 premiere! I have been watching The Rookie since it premiered. It’s one show I can watch with my daughter and we both enjoy it.

There are so many strong female characters in The Rookie. They are strong, smart, resourceful women with various backgrounds climbing the ranks of the LAPD.

Then you have the male characters. Also several upstanding male characters with diverse backgrounds that your children can aspire to be.

I know when Peyton first started watching she wanted to be like Officer Chen (Melissa O’Neil) but now she much rather be Nyla Haper (Meika Cox). Chen is starting her career with the LAPD but she’s strong, smart, and bound to go far. Harper has been undercover, she’s a hardass and is a legend in some parts of the LAPD due to her accomplishments as an officer.  These women use their talents to bring these unique characters to life on The Rookie each week.

While Officer Nolan (Nathan Fillion) is the main focus of the show and he is a great actor he has a superb supporting cast. He wouldn’t be able to be the stoic, moral compass of the show without the rest of them.

In the season three premiere, we find Nolan caught in a mess. A downright mess that a dirty cop created to try and frame Nolan for crimes he did not commit. The whole hour was full of twists and turns. You saw Nolan’s fellow officers torn on who to believe. Do they believe Nolan who they’ve known for a short while but see him as one of the noblest and morally grounded officers on the force? Or do they believe the veteran cop that is renowned throughout the LAPD for his accomplishments? Tough call!

Of course we, the audience, know that Nolan is innocent but how are his fellow officers going to come to the same conclusion? ugh! So much drama!!

The way the writers have interwoven the characters and their stories make for one of the most entertaining hour in prime time television. And the premiere was not all about Nolan. We learn some interesting news about Officer Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) too. But I won’t spoil it for you.
