Easter may have come and gone but a wholesome, inspirational, family orientated movie is welcome
in my home any day. Grace of God was recently released on DVD (March 24,2015). When I was asked if I would like to review a family movie in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion I said yes. I am always looking for movies I can watch with my daughter and nephews.
Grace of God has some amazing actors and actresses. To name a few there is John Ratzenberger, Erin Bethea and Lorenzo Lamas. All I have seen in other movies or shows and have thoroughly enjoyed their previous performances so I was excited to watch them in Grace of God.
Detective Bill Broadly is the main character, he has lost his faith and believes most Christians are hypocrites. But when he is called in to investigate the theft of $30,000 from the Church he starts to see things differently. As he questions and investigates the members of the church he sees how they have faith even though areas of their lives are difficult and can be a struggle. Throughout the investigation Detective Bill Broadly starts to question his own faith and what he believes. As he gets to know the members and as his faith starts to surface Detective Broadly starts to feel conflicted. He has an idea who the thief is, but he likes them, and because his views on God and forgiveness are being reshaped he struggles with what needs to be done. In the end the person responsible steps forward and Detective Broadly comes to the realization that Christians are human. They are no better than anyone else and have flaws too.
Grace of God is a great movie for anyone. For those who are having an internal struggle themselves it may help them sort through some of their own feelings. Since these are real issues and it’s not a face paced movie I would recommend it for ages 12 +. If you have a younger child who enjoys dramas this would probably work. But for my 4 year old daughter and 8 year old nephew it did not hold their interest. However, I enjoyed it. There are not many movies that have no nudity and clean language. Grace of God is a movie I felt comfortable watching while the kids were in the room playing with their toys.
