4 Perfect Road Trip Snacks

It’s spring and you know what that means it’s road trip season! Peyton and I are gearing up for our first road trip of the year.  As soon as school is out we out of here! But traveling with kids in a car means there is going to have to be food in the car as well. And kids can be messy! Well, even I can be messy if I am trying to drive and eat at the same time.  Today, I am going to share with you a few of my favorite road trip snack that minimizes the mess, travel well and taste great.

road trip snacksGrapes

Grapes are my favorite road trip snack. Why? Because they can serve as an ice pack, a not messy, travel well in nearly all temperatures and are a family favorite.  I suggest getting seedless grapes and also freezing them. The frozen grapes can help keep the other food cold plus they taste like a little treat when they are frozen. Grapes are pretty much a mess-free snack because each grape is one bite. And they travel well without having to be refrigerated. Plus, they last a fairly long time before spoiling.

Bottle Water with Sport Spout

Typically on a road trip, Peyton and I have a case of bottled water in the car. I like to buy the water with the sport spout because then you are not handing a full bottle of water throughout the car with a cap off.  Most kids can flip a sports lid and drink it with minimal assistance and then flip the top down.

road trip snacksPretzels

Ok, pretzels can be messy but if you buy the individual bags of pretzels or take a large bag and break it up into several small sandwich bags it will help minimize the mess. The reason I chose pretzels over chips is the grease factor. Chips can leave your fingers greasy or full of cheese.  Pretzels don’t do that. The worse that’s going to happen from a bag of pretzels is salt or crushed pretzels, both vacuum up fairly easy.

Beef Jerky or Beef Sticks

I always like to have a protein on our road trips and beef jerky is a hit in our family so I like to bring it with us.  It’s another snack that travel well and does not require to be kept cold.

While all these snacks are a minimal mess I would also suggest you bring a bag or small trash can to keep in the car too. Otherwise, you are going to have a little bit of trash circulating throughout the car until you stop somewhere and can toss it out.

These are just a few of my favorite snacks to take with us on road trips. They’ve proven to keep the mess to a minimal amount and please my travel companions.
