Sometimes it’s the places off the beaten path that are the best places to visit. Today we are going to explore a little bit of what Detriot. Michigan has to offer. Places that you may not think of to visit when you plan your next trip. But these places are guaranteed to be places you’ll want to visit. Filled with history, beauty or just quirky they will add a twist to any family trip.
Detroit Public Library
I know this sounds crazy, but trust me, visit the Detroit Public Library while you are in town. The paintings and architecture are well worth the visit. Take your time, walk around and really take in the beauty that surrounds you. Make time to take the free, one hour tour of the library to learn about the history.
Henry Ford Museum
We’ve all heard about Henry Ford and his accomplishments over his lifetime. While the museum does focus on Henry Ford it also showcases many technology advancements over the years. Some of the most notable exhibits within the museum are the very first steam locomotive, built-in 1829 by George Stephenson, the car in which John F Kennedy was assassinated and of course the first-ever Ford car.
Morley Candy Factory
Morley Candy Makers give a free factory tour that you won’t forget. Not only is it entertaining but you’ll also get your sugar fix.
After a short film about how the company got started, guests move on to the 150-foot long Observation Hallway to view the creation of candy such as Pecan Torties and Coconut Custers.
You’ll want to arrive a little early to partake in the free samples before the tour begins and be sure to enjoy some more after the tour concludes. Be sure to take a few moments and check out the gift shop, which has candy and ice cream souvenirs and plenty more samples.
Automotive Hall of Fame
Visit the Automotive Hall of Fame, where you can celebrate the men and women whose automotive innovations changed the world and revolutionized our way of life. Exhibit galleries with permanent and changing exhibits on the early days of the automobile, the rise of the auto industry around the globe, and the beauty of auto styling and how it has changed every part of our daily lives.
