Weight loss is a journey, you didn’t become overweight overnight so do not expect to lose it overnight. With that being said, I feel the following have really helped me be successful on my journey. I’m only a quarter of the way through it but without these things, I do not think I would be here.
A Plan
I thought a long time about how I was going to lose the weight. I looked at countless programs from food delivery programs to exercise programs. In the end, I went with Nutrisystem. Why? Because they treat the whole you, it’s more than training you to count calories. Nutrisystem has a team of counselors that are there for you. They also have an online forum full of people trying to lose weight that you bond with and help encourage each other. Plus, they have delicious food! Some of the food is shelf stable and some frozen so no matter where my day takes me Nutrisystem has me covered.
An App
I actually use 2 apps to help keep me on track. I use NuMi (from Nutrisystem) to help keep me on track with eating several small meals a day and calorie count. Then I use Fitbit to help me keep track of what calories I am burning. The combination of the two has really taught me a lot about my eating and activity habits. For example, I’m a late night snacker! So I have adjusted my bedtime to be around 10 pm because anything later and I want to eat the whole house. I’ve also noticed that on the weekends I am moving and burning a ton more calories than I do during the week. So I need to make a more conscious effort to get a walk or two in during the week.
Dependable Scale
I am on my second scale since I started this journey. The first scale had crazy weight swings and I finally tossed it in the trash. Then I bought EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale with Extra Large Lighted Display. It’s easy to read, even when you are half a sleep. And the numbers are consistent. Exactly what you want when you are trying to track your journey.
Activity Tracker
I LOVE my Fitbit. There are lots of choices out there for activity trackers so check them and find one you really like. I find that if I wear my Fitbit every day I am more likely to get the exercise in. I also like that it tracks my sleep and heart rate. I can tell a lot about my health by watching those two areas. For example, if I am only averaging 6 hours a sleep a night I’m less likely to lose weight. But when I am hitting the 8 hours a sleep a night consistently the weight comes off. Or if my resting heart rate jumps up then I am either struggling with allergies or coming down ill. It’s a great way for me to stay in tune with my health.
Water Bottle
You are going to be drinking a lot of water on this journey. So, find a water bottle you love and buy 2. It sounds silly, but if you do not like using the water bottle you have you are much less likely to drink out of it. This will hinder your ability to get in those 64+ ounces of water each day. I have found out that I prefer a silicone straw over a hard spout for my water bottle. And I like it full of ice cubes. It makes a big difference in how much water I consume.
If you are ready to slow down and enjoy life while trying to drop a few pounds, check out Nutrisystem. It’s really made a difference in my life.
