The weather has definitely turned here in the Midwest. While the south and east coast are experiencing heatwaves, other parts of the country are experiencing snow! The weather has had extreme swings throughout the country, yet we all know, and some of us hope, fall will be here very shortly. This is the time of year I like to go through the car and prep it for cooler temperatures and for what may end up getting tracked into my car. Here are a few things that I have in my car that help this time of year not take a toll on my car.
Backseat Protector
Yes, these are geared towards pet owners but I’m going to tell you they are perfect for parents with 2 legged children as well. I’m telling you, this backseat protector has been a lifesaver for me. Because they are waterproof, if anything is spilled it never gets into my upholstery. So when Peyton was little and we traveled with sippy cups of milk I never had to worry about it. If it fell on the seat, I just took the cover off and washed it in the washing machine. Never have to worry about sour milk in the car again!
Or what about when you are potty training, kids have accidents. Don’t need to worry if you have one of these. Or when there’s a stomach virus going around and you need to pick up little Johnny from school and he doesn’t make it home without an episode in the backseat. In that case, I’d toss it and buy a new one but you could also wash it. Your upholstery will never be soiled!
Backseat Barrier
Again, another pet product that has more uses than just for pets. I use a backseat barrier in my SUV for the simple purpose of I don’t want things flying forward and hitting my gear shift. When we go on road trips we tend to pack the car pretty full, there are lots of items to bring with us. If I have to hit the breaks hard, sometimes things come flying forward. But with the barrier whatever is lose and moving forward will be stopped.
Having a backseat barrier is also nice if there are kids in the backseat too. When my daughter was little she liked to keep her feet on the front arm console. It was very annoying to have little fit sticking through and kicking me constantly. Plus it’s not safe for her little legs. This stops those little feet from dancing around and kicking my arm while I’m driving.
Trunk Barrier
Having a trunk barrier is a must for any SUV owner. For us, I transport our two German Shepherds around town and having the trunk barrier helps keep them in the cargo area and not in my backseat. But it also comes in handy on road trips, again, like above, it keeps everything where it should be if I should have to press hard on the breaks and come to an abrupt stop.
When the trunk barrier is property installed nothing can get out of the cargo area and into another area of the car.
Trunk Organizer
If you don’t have a trunk organizer you need to get one! It has made my car so organized! Everything has it’s place and I know where everything is at all times. I can keep a spare bottle of windshield wiper fluids, the roadside emergency kit, ice scraper and more all nice and neatly packed away in the trunk organizer. There are hanging versions that hand over the backseat in the cargo area or ones that look like totes. Either one will work wonders on getting your car ready for fall.
Trash Can
Every car needs a trash can of some sort. We are a busy world with families constantly running around. I know, I find us eating in the car more than I would like and if I don’t have a bag or trash can in the car the trash just ends up on the floor making one huge mess. Plus, if you trash sitting on the floor of your car chances are it’s going to start getting stinky in there. So invest in a car trash can and keep the trash all in one place for easy daily disposal.
These are just a few of my favorite items I use to organize and keep my SUV clean.
