If you don’t get a good night’s sleep, you’ll certainly feel it the next day. You’ll feel fatigued at work and won’t be able to concentrate on any tasks. So you can see that it is super important to get enough shut-eye! But not just so you feel ok at work. There are loads of other health benefits that come with a good night’s sleep. How do you make sure you drop off each night? Here are five useful tips.
Get Comfortable
The best way to ensure you sleep through the night is to get a comfortable bed. Michelle Henry is passionate about getting a good night\’s sleep by creating a sleep sanctuary. You can find out more at her blog betterbedsolutions.com. On the blog, you’ll see information about the Zinus mattress (solid review here). The mattress is made with green tea to help relieve a number of skin irritations and respiratory problems. If you get a specialist mattress such as this one, you’ll find that you don’t have a problem sleeping through the night. No matter what ailments you might have.
Cut Down On Screens
If you use your smartphone or laptop right before bed, you’ll find that it takes longer for you to drop off at night. That’s because the blue light from the screens wakes up your body. So don’t use any screens for a couple of hours before you go to bed. This will give your body plenty of time to wind down. And that includes TV screens as well. Take that TV out of your bedroom and instead of watching it before you turn the light out, read a book instead.
Get Into A Routine
You should be going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. This will help to set your body clock and can help your body unwind ready for bed. Even though you might be tempted to sleep in on the weekend, you shouldn’t allow yourself more than half an hour’s extra sleep. Any more could play havoc with your body clock. You may even experience jet lag symptoms!
Don’t Nap
If you sleep during the day, you will find it much harder to relax at night. For those of you who can’t cope without a nap, limit it to twenty minutes and try to take it as early as possible. There are a number of ways to try and overcome the need to nap. Get some fresh air to wake yourself up. Or sip a cold glass of iced water.
Cut Down On Caffeine
Even if you just have a couple of cups of coffee a day, your body could still find it tricky to switch off at night. So try and cut down on your daily intake of caffeine. You should also check all the ready made food that you eat, as this can have hidden levels of caffeine in. Some painkillers also contain caffeine, so make sure you know how much you are taking.
