5 Tips on How Not to Get Discouraged When Losing Weight

Nutrisystem DisclosureWe all have it, those weeks we don’t lose weight no matter how hard we try. It’s going to happen. Last week was my week. I’ve been ill over the past month and it finally caught up with me. Between the medications and lack of energy, I didn’t drop an ounce. When I first stepped on that scale I was discouraged and upset. But then I took a deep breath and put it all in perspective. In 7 weeks on Nutrisystem, I have lost 15 pounds. 15 pounds! That’s right, I’ve lost 15 pounds and I’m down a size. That right there is impressive and something to be proud of. So I thought I would share my tips for not beating myself up this week over no weight loss.

Look at How Far You’ve Come

When I got on that scale and saw no movement, I’ll admit, I was upset. My first thought was, I’ve worked the plan, I’ve done what I was supposed to do, why didn’t the scale move?? Well, yes I had worked the plan but I have also been on antibiotics, steroids, allergy medicine and taken lots of Advil these past few weeks. So I have a feeling this may be mostly water weight just holding on. And heck, I’ve lost 15 pounds! That’s a huge accomplishment. I have gotten rid of all my size 16 clothes and my size 14 is very comfortable. I’m wearing clothes I haven’t worn in over a year because I can fit in them! And I feel more confident in my appearance.

AspargusDo Something for Yourself

Instead of beating yourself up over the scale, do something for yourself. For me, I did a mini in-home pedicure. I took out the foot bath and just soaked my feet. After all, I have been walking and exercising a lot this past month, my feet could use a little TLC at the moment. Just taking a little time for yourself to decompress can help improve your mood. I know I felt a lot better after pampering myself. And my feet looked really good in sandals after it too!

Check Your Journal

I’m a mindless eater, so keeping a food journal really keeps me on track. I looked at my food journal to see if I was getting in a food rut and you know what?? I am. I think I ate asparagus for dinner 4 times last week. And cherry tomatoes nearly every day. So when I made my grocery list this week I switched it up. I have found that if I eat the same thing day after day my body stops responding. So this week, I’m shaking it up! I’m going to do some eggs for breakfast and switch up the veggies. See if that helps move the scale in the direction I desire.

Don’t just sit there and dwell on the scale. Get up and move! For me, that meant getting up and taking my daughter swimming. Spending time with Peyton is always fun. And getting in the pool was a great way to spend some time with her and get some exercise at the same time too.

I know this is not a Disney movie but it’s true, let it go. The scale is only a reflection of a moment in time. Heck, I could jump on the scale tomorrow and be down. Maybe today I’m retaining water or the scale needs new batteries or I was wearing a heavy shirt. But I’m not going to sit here and dwell on it. I’m going to keep working my plan and stay positive.

I know it’s discouraging when you are trying to lose weight and the scale doesn’t move. But not every week is going to show a big number loss. So you need to keep it in perspective. Maybe you are about to get your period, that can lead to bloating and may not see a loss that week. But keep up the good work and next week you’ll see a difference!

For me, I’m going to keep on keeping on. I’m going to continue to work my plan, journal my food choices and maybe add a little more exercise in. I want to see results and I was disappointed when I didn’t see it, on the scale. But I look at how much my face has changed over the past 7 weeks, my complexion is clearer, my cheeks are thinner. I can wear smaller clothes! And I am so close to fitting in my Cheshire Cat leggings that I am not giving up. So while there may not have been a pound loss this week to report, I can report that I am going to keep working the plan and stay positive. Who knows what next week will bring. All I know is I can’t wait to see it!

If you are ready to slow down and enjoy life while trying to drop a few pounds, check out Nutrisystem. It’s really made a difference in my life.
