5:00 am the alarm sounds. My first thought is – Didn’t I just go to sleep? And who in the world thought 5 am would be a good time to get up? Well, of course it was me. I thought 5 am would be a great time to get up. There’s so much to do! And I was too tired to stay up any later last night so I thought getting up at 5 am would help.
I begrudgingly pull myself out of bed and stumble towards the bathroom. All the while my cat, Sebastian, is screaming for his food. Yes, screaming. Mind you, he has a full bowl of dry food by his water dish but Sebastian has decided that he needs wet food. Fancy Feast to be exact. I ignore him and shut the bathroom door in his face. Once I’ve brushed my teeth and washed my face I come out and that darn cat is still freaking out. You’d think I starved him! So I walk over and pull a can out and pour it onto his plate. Well, then I see Sophia. She’s been waiting ever so patiently under the kitchen table. So I take another can out and give her some too. Now the cats are fed.
I head over to my home office and start checking things out. First I check for rude comments and spam throughout my social media accounts. Then I start looking at emails. (You’d be amazed at how many people work in the wee hours of the morning.) Once I’ve answered emails it’s already 6 am. I figure I have about a half hour before I have to start getting ready so I start writing a book review. I know I won’t get it finished before we have to leave but at least I can get it started.
At 6:30 am I stopped writing and start getting ready. I hop in the shower, wash my hair and get out. With a towel wrapped around my hair and bathrobe on I start thinking what in the world am I sending with Peyton to school for snack. (I did sliced Kiwi yesterday so I don’t want to do it again.) As I’m looking around the kitchen I realize we need to go grocery shopping. There’s nothing except granola bars for snack. (That’s my fall back snack. Quaker S’mores Granola Bars) So I grab two and toss them in her backpack. Double check she has a water bottle for the day and look through her folder. Then I gather her jacket, snow pants, boots, hats, mittens, scarf and backpack and place them by the door. (note to self – BUY FOOD)
Now it’s 7 am and I need to hustle. I quickly comb out my hair and tousle it. There’s no time for blow drying it. Thank goodness I have a natural wave to my hair and it’ll look decent once it dries. I grab some clothes and throw them on. Apply a little foundation and do a quick natural, classic look. After I’m done getting myself dressed I went to grab some perfume but then I remembered Peyton broke it this weekend when she knocked it onto the bathroom floor. Oh well. (note to self – BUY PERFUME)
By 7:30 am it’s time to wake Peyton up. I have her clothes set out for the day and I am hoping she is not going to act like a diva this morning about getting dressed. I head into my room (yes she sleeps in my bed) and I start to rub her back to wake her up. After a little while she starts to stir. Once she’s awake I hand her her clothes. Surprisingly she gets dressed without a fight! SCORE!!
Now it’s 8:05 and we are out the door. I can’t believe we made it out on time! I’m still exhausted but thankful we are on track. We head to school and try to beat the crossing guards out. Peyton is not fond of them so I always try to get her there before they come out so she can avoid them and go inside for breakfast.
And I’m off to work! I also work a day job, in an office, besides blogging and being a single parent.
