Well my little one started school this fall for the first time. It has been a huge adjustment. One thing I really miss is all the time we used to have together to just play and have a good time. Now those moments are not as frequent. While I want to have fun I also want to take our time to help her learn new skills or master skills. Dowdle does a wonderful job at helping me do this while having a great time.
What is Dowdle? They are a manufacturer of puzzles. But their puzzles are abortively some of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever scene. Eric Dowdle actually visit each place before he makes a puzzle for it. For example, the one we are working on is about South Dakota and features Mount Rushmore and many other highlights from the area. His puzzles are like a piece of art that needs to be put together. For me, completing the puzzle is a reward of seeing the finished artwork.
I like doing puzzles with my daughter and other family members. It’s a great way to get everyone communicating and hanging out together. Too often when my nephew comes over his face is buried in an iPad and then my daughter follows his lead and does the same thing. The next thing I know I have two kids sitting on the couch, not interacting with each other, just staring at a screen. But when I bring a puzzle out they both engage. I can get them to start talking about their days. And puzzles are great for teaching kids patience, team work and problem solving.
I love our Dowdle puzzle. While it is 1000 pieces and will probably take us a long while to finish it, it will be worth it. If 1000 pieces seems a little too daunting there are also 500 and 100 piece puzzles to choose from. All with the same amazing attention to detail. All looking like a piece of art when finished.
