Black Panther is one of the MUST SEE movies of 2018. I took the kids to see it in the theater over spring break and they both loved it! Well, the 11-year-old said it was kinda cool, but coming from him that’s a high compliment! The 7-year-old LOVED it! And this momma loved it too! There are so many good things about this movie that I just do not know where to start.
Black Panther picks up right where Captain America: Civil War ended. T’Challa has just returned from the summit where the King, his father was killed. It is now time for T’Challa to become King and rule Wakanda. There is not much of a time lapse or jump here, maybe a few weeks or months, nothing major.
The origin story of the Black Panther is woven into King T’Challa’s story but it is not necessarily T’Challa’s origin story, in my opinion. We learn how Kawanda came to be and how the Black Panther came into his power. And we quickly find out that the King of Kawanda is passed down from father to son. Yes, there is an opportunity for other clans to fight for the throne but it’s rarely done.
In Black Panther we see T’Challa become king, we see him have to fight to keep his position and try to stop his country from breaking into two factions fighting for power. We also learn just how bad ass the women of Kawanda are. And they are! They are super impressive with their wit, strength, and power. Truly role models for any little girl to look up to. They showcase how the women of Kawanda can be anything from a warrior, to a brilliant scientist/engineer, mother, politician, spy and more. I love this message! As a mom of a strong-willed daughter, I love her seeing strong women up on the big screen. And guess what? Peyton wants to be a warrior, the only thing that is holding her back is they shave their heads. Otherwise, she’d be off to find Wakanda and start her warrior training tomorrow!
Black Panther is now available on Blu-Ray to bring home or you can stream it to your devices. Either way, you need to order or pick up your copy today. We’ve already used our digital credits at Amazon for Black Panther and we were sent the Blu-Ray for review. Peyton has already watched the movie 3 times in the past week via streaming.
Will there be a Black Panther 2? Oh, I hope so! I would love to see more of Wakanda!
