I love the holidays. I love dressing up, decorating the house, baking, basically anything fun to make the holiday more festive. But when I had my daughter I often found myself short on time, energy or both. I still want to celebrate. I still want to do fun things she will remember when she is older. But being a single mom and working full time sometimes really suck all the energy right out of me. And now St Patricks day falls during the week. I am most rushed during the week. So how are we going to make this St Patrick’s Day special?? By cutting corners!
Yes I would love to make homemade sugar cookies with my daughter and decorate them. But on a Monday night I don’t have the time. By the time I get home from work, make dinner, clean up dinner and get Peyton a bath it’s already 8 pm. Her bedtime is fast approaching. So I bought pre-made cookies. Something I thought I would never do. But time is tight so I have to do what I have to do.
In my opinion I picked up a fairly nice cookie decorating kit at the local grocery store. Everything I needed was included. And when Peyton looks back at this, when she’s a mom, I am pretty sure she is not going to think “Oh, my mom was such a slacker! She couldn’t even make me cookies.” I am hoping she will remember the fun we had making green frosting, decorating cookies and eating cookies with a glass of milk.
Even though I am a single mom, working full time outside of the home and I do it all by myself I still try to make every holiday special. I think that’s what Peyton will remember when she is older. How much fun the holidays were.
