One of my goals in the new year is to get back to cooking and baking for Peyton more often. Somehow we have fallen into a rut where I buy tons of processed foods that just need to be tossed in the oven. Now, I’m not saying that’s a horrible thing. I’m obviously not against it as I am doing it right now. But I much rather make her a meal from scratch or bake her a treat to enjoy during the week. With the help of Cooking, Baking and Making by Cynthia O’Connor O’Hara that is what I am going to be doing next year, I will be making Peyton homemade meals and treats again.
Inside Cooking, Baking and Making you’ll find 100 recipes and DIY ideas for nearly every season and reason! How do I know, well it says so on the cover plus I looked through the book.
I just need to point out that EVERY recipe or DIY project has a beautiful photo! I love it when books do this. Then I have something to aim for and I also know if I’m off in the weeds and screwing it up. The pictures are a full page and beautiful. I will admit, flipping through the pages made me oh so hungry!
This is not your typical cookbook breakdown. Typically cookbooks break down the chapters into main dishes, desserts, snacks, ect…. But in Cooking, Baking and Making they break it down into seasons. All of the DIY is towards the back of the book lumped together. For the most part, the way they organized the book makes sense. But because they went by season I would’ve like to have seen the DIY incorporated into each season and not all lumped after the winter recipes.
There are various levels of difficulty throughout the book and a large variety of dishes. If you are a family that cooks together this book would be a great addition to your home cookbook library. It’s filled with lots of fun dishes and desserts that the family will enjoy and will impress your guests.
