I am always looking for ways to improve our space. Our home is an open floor plan, so the rooms just seem to flow into one another and that leads to chaos. And messes. I can’t handle either very well. As you can tell by my before picture, this is just not working. We have way, way too much stuff on these bookshelves and there’s no organization to it. I am ready for a change. I am going to use the Walmart Mainstays Cube Storage Home Entertainment Center to help freshen up my living room and get us organized.
First thing is first, out with the old to move in the new! Let’s just say, Peyton was not thrilled with this part of the project. We had to move all those books off our old bookshelves and get them out of the house. The next step was to start putting together the new entertainment center. Now, this did take 2 adults to assemble, not the whole time but there were a few times an extra set of hands were needed. So while Peyton and I were clearing the space of our old furniture, we had a friend assembling our new furniture. It took a little over 3 hours for us to fully assemble the Walmart Mainstays Cube Storage Home Entertainment Center. But once it was done, it looked amazing! A completely different look for our space.
Next came the hard part, we had to sort through all our books and organize the ones we wanted to keep. We turned the entertainment center into a stylish home library! Each cube held a different genre. Children’s cookbooks went in one cube, my favorite author went in another cube, grilling books in another and so on until we had all our books put away. Everything that didn’t make it back on the shelves we bagged up and donated.
Can you see how full this trunk is?? Nearly all that came out of that little space! Those bookcases were bursting with things we no longer used or needed. Now they have moved on to find a new home.
I also wanted to use this space for organizing as well. I went and purchased three decorative baskets to hold our winter gear. That way, I would know where all our hats, gloves and scarves are without having to hunt throughout the house every morning. I also purchased a plastic bin to organize all of Peyton’s school pictures, flash drives of videos meeting Santa Claus and CDs filled with photos. Now they are all in one place and I can find them with ease. Before, let’s just say it would take me a while to find them and they were not in one place, more like a dozen or so places.
Walking in the door after a long day at work, seeing this beautiful entertainment center (and not the clutter anymore) is incredible. It makes me actually want to hang out in our living room. It also makes me want to go through our cookbooks and do a little meal planning! Peyton is really excited about that.
