Ditch The Oil With These Grease-Free Cooking Tips

We are often told that cooking ourselves is a lot healthier than relying on ready meals and takeaways. And that’s all because we can control the amount of salt and sugar that goes into our own meals. However, there is often one part of cooking that we forget to consider, which often means our home-cooked food isn’t as healthy as we’d like to think. And that is when it comes to using oil. Most of us forget to think about how we can cut down on the amount of oil we use in cooking. Hopefully, all of these tips will help you cut down the calories by ditching the oil!

Change The Type Of Oil You Use

Not every type of oil is created equally. In fact, some are considered quite healthy. Unfortunately, though, regular cooking oil is one of the most unhealthiest. You will find that you can greatly reduce the calories that are in your food. One of the healthiest oils out there is olive oil. This is great to use as a dressing for your salads. You shouldn’t cook with it, though, as it can become toxic when heated to high heats. Instead, cook with rapeseed oil, which is another great healthy alternative.

Don’t Fry

One of the main ways excess oil gets into our food is through our cooking methods. For instance, when we fry food, we need to heat up oil in the pan first. So, the obvious way to reduce your oil intake is to cut down on frying. There are much healthier options. For instance, you could treat yourself to an air fryer. You can visit here to read some reviews of the best ones on the market. It’s also a good idea to try and boil or steam your vegetables rather than oven roast them. That’s because you need to coat them in oil while roasting.

When you are following recipes, there will be a quantity of each ingredient that needs to go into the meal. It is important that you try and religiously stick to these quantities. Not only will it affect the overall result and appearance of the finished meal, but these quantities will have probably been used because they are healthy. So, rather than increasing them, stick to them so that you don’t add too many calories to your meals!

Use Some Water

Sometimes, it is necessary to coat certain ingredients in oil to help them cook. For example, when you are cooking aubergines, you will normally coat them in oil before grilling or roasting them. But, instead of using so much oil, you should use water instead. It will have the same desired effect as oil, but without any of the fat and calories!

So, as you can see, you don’t need to use so much oil in your cooking all the time. There are plenty of healthy alternatives you can use! And you won’t even be able to taste the difference in the finished meal!
