Last week I was fairly discouraged. It was the first week since I started Nutrisystem that I had not lost any weight. And I struggled with staying upbeat and on track. I don’t think being ill helped my attitude. For a while now I had dreamed about losing the weight and finally started setting goals this spring. Now those goals are starting to become a reality. When I got on the scale this week I was down 2 more pounds! That’s a total of 18 pounds gone since I started 2 months ago. That’s pretty impressive.
My newest goal is that by July 4th I am down 25 pounds. So in the next 4 weeks, I plan on working my tush off and eating right and hitting that goal. We also have a huge family vacation coming up in August that I need to start getting in shape for. We are heading to Florida to stay at Universal Studios and I plan on exploring every single inch of Harry Potter world. If I attempted to do that today I would not be able to. I am extremely out of shape. So, from now until the day we leave I plan on walking every day to build up stamina and endurance so I will be able to explore every inch of Harry Potter world.
Did you notice how I am setting goals that are attainable in a short period of time? My overall goal is to go from weighing 227 lbs down to 145 lbs. I know this is a long journey and it will be easy to be discouraged along the way. So I set a few short term goals. Like losing 25 lbs by the 4th of July. That’s 7 lbs in the next 4 weeks. It will take discipline to get there but it’s attainable and a short term goal to keep me motivated and positive on my weight loss journey.
Also, walking every day so I can build up endurance to enjoy our August vacation is also another short term goal. It’s a goal I can set and will be able to see improvement in a fairly short amount of time. This works for me.
I have taken my overall goal of losing 82 lbs and broke it down into smaller goals. Because when I think about having to lose another 64 lbs it can be a little overwhelming. I start to think of it as being impossible. But when I focus on losing 7 lbs in 4 weeks that is a short term goal and I know I can do it.
Nutrisystem has helped me meet my short term goals by teaching me to take it one day at a time. I have learned a lot about nutrition over the past 2 months. Before, I thought I was eating healthy. But now, I know I wasn’t. Soda is pretty much out of my diet. I may have the occasional soda here and there, but it’s not every day like before. Water is my first choice of beverage. And you know what? Not only is it healthier for me but it’s also easy on my pocket book. You’ll be surprised at how much money you save cutting out high-calorie beverages.
Another thing I’ve learned over the past 2 months is I am a carb lover. Before Nutrisystem, I was eating an enormous amount of carbs without even realizing it. And my protein intake was extremely low. Now, I’m eating a fair amount of protein and a moderate amount of carbs. I’ve also learned that my body thrives off high protein days. And that if I start the day with scrambled eggs it keeps me full and focused much longer than any bagel ever did.
Nutrisystem has taught me to listen to my body. Like every parent, I have a heavy load. And as a single parent, I do it all by myself. So, I’m burning the candle at both ends. Since starting Nutrisystem I have been tracking my sleep and I have noticed something. When I get 4-6 hours of sleep I eat and crave junk food (carbs). But if I get between 7-9 hours of sleep I don’t crave junk food and the weight seems to come off. So, for me, sleep seems to have a correlation to my weight and eating habits.
Being on Nutrisystem for 2 months has really taught me a lot about myself, my habits and nutrition. It has given me knowledge and tools that I will be using to lose the weight now and keep it off in the future.
If you are ready to slow down and enjoy life while trying to drop a few pounds, check out Nutrisystem. It’s really made a difference in my life.
