The Chicago area is one of our favorite destinations. It’s only 5 hours from home and full of museums, zoos, attractions and more. It’s the perfect change of scenery for the weekend.
On our most recent trip, we stayed in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. It’s just a short drive outside of Chicago, however, it’s centrally located to the attractions and tollway making it the perfect choice for this trip.
Our hotel of choice was the Country Inn and Suites in Elk Grove Village. Not only is it right off the tollway it is also located next to restaurants and is family friendly. There were several eateries within walking distance making the day we arrived much more pleasant. We were able to check in and then head over and get a bite to eat nearby.
Country Inn and Suites also has a pool and workout room plus a stocked lobby full of books for all levels of readers available for checkout. They also offer a complimentary breakfast for all guest!
While we were in town we took in a few attractions. On our first full day, we drove into Chicago and visited the Lincoln Park Zoo. We really enjoyed our day at the zoo but we didn’t see all the animals. We will definitely be heading back and taking a second day to fully see the zoo another time we are in town.
On our second day in town, we spent the day at the Shedd Aquarium and then finished the night off with Medieval Times. Both were wonderful!
The Shedd Aquarium was a perfect choice because it was a rainy and dreary day. Peyton and I spent the whole day inside enjoying the aquariums full of fish and other amphibians. Again, we spent the whole day and did not make it through everything. Between watching the different aquatic presentations and learning about the different animals it’s easy to spend a whole day and not see everything.
When they closed the Shedd Aquarium we went over the Medieval Times and enjoy dinner and a show. That was an experience! While you are enjoying dinner (without utensils) you’re also watching knights joust and battle to be best. It’s lots of fun and a must do at least once in your life. Be ready to shout and cheer your heart out for your knight!
And every day when we were done with our adventures we headed back to the Country Inn and Suites in Elk Grove Village to rest. It was a great weekend, filled with adventures, experiences and making memories as a family.
