Becoming a mother is one of the most amazing moments in your life and it something which is amazing for us to experience in adulthood. Being a mom is the best feeling in the world as we have a little baby to look after and love, and it can fill our life with so much joy and meaning every single day. When it comes to becoming a mother, one of the things they don’t always tell you is that you may lose a lot of confidence. You could lose confidence in your body, in your mind and your ability to look after a child… which is why today we are going to look at some of the ways we can fight this feeling and feel confident every day.
Appreciate what you have done
Before you even think about anything else, just look back at the last nine months and be proud of what you have just achieved. You as a woman have just sorted a growing life in your body for nearly a year, looking after it and allowing it to grow, and then you have spent hours in pain to bring it into the world. Honestly, not everyone could do what you have just done and you should be proud of this. You are a strong and confident woman and you deserve to feel this way.
Wear comfortable clothing
As a new Mom, the main thing which can knock your confidence down is the fact that your body won’t look the way it did before you became pregnant. The important thing to remember is that you have stretched your body for a number of months and this is the reason why you don’t look the same way now, and you have been able to create a new life because of this. Make sure day to day you wear comfortable and supportive clothing such as on inner parents because this will stop you feeling as if you are struggling to fit into your old clothing. It will take time to get back to your former weight but you are beautiful anyway.
Don’t compare yourself
The worst thing you can do as a new Mom is follow a ton of Instagram accounts with other new moms having the time of their lives. You may notice some women who get their body back super early and women who seem to be having the time of their lives, but this isn’t always reality and you shouldn’t feel lesser for it. Everyone is different and other people may have more privileges than you, just make sure to focus on yourself and your own baby and you shouldn’t have any issues.
Meal prep
Trying to go to the gym and workout to get your figure back after having a baby is a lot easier said than done and it can be something which just isn’t very realistic at all. This is why you should consider staying healthy with your meal choices instead, and this can be done by prepping big batches of food for the week ahead. Your eating schedule might go a little out of the window with a baby which is why convenient meals are key, and this is why prepared meals can save the day.
Positive thinking
It is not surprising that after the emotional and physical toll birth puts on you that you may feel a little down and depressed for a while after. This is more normal than you think and the idea of being a mother to another life can be a little overwhelming at times. Just make sure that you take things day by day with a smile on your face and think of the positive things. Firstly you have some time away from work to spend at home with your baby, you are able to bond with this beautiful little child, and you can watch some of those cartoons you always loved as a kid! Take every day and think of the good things and this can help your mental state hugely.
Buy a nice dress or two
As a Mom, you might feel as if you constantly live in your pajamas and this can sometimes be a little annoying for you and it can make you feel less womanly than you might like. This is why it is important for you to go out shopping with your other half one day and buy yourself some flowing dresses to wear as well as some new shirts and other items. Comfortable clothes can still be pretty and wearing these every day can increase your confidence massively and make you feel like the woman you were once again.
A clean house is a clean mind
HA! You might say… because honestly, the notion of a clean and tidy house with a baby can seem too good to be true. However although you will have a lot of toys and baby stuff lying around, it doesn’t mean you can declutter the rest of the space. For example, you can have a look at clearing out your wardrobes and cupboards of things you don’t need. Get rid of any letters you don’t need and think about clearing some space on your shelves to make the rooms feel larger than they are. This small thing can make all the difference and if you are spending time at home it can really help you to feel clear headed and happier.
Take up a hobby
When your baby is sleeping during the daytime this can be the ideal time for you to have some fun of your own and start learning a new skill or try a new hobby. Playing around with art or photography or sewing can be great hobbies to take up and you will start to build some confidence by simply being good at something. Doing new things is always a good way to spend your time and it can really make a difference to your day.
Surround yourself with uplifting people
It is incredibly important once you bring a new life into the world that you take the time to surround yourself with happy and positive people. As a new parent, it can feel like walking on the front lines with a blindfold on and you honestly need guidance from as many people as you can. This is why it is important to contact people who are positive and those who will uplift you and make you feel more confident. Be around the kind of people who want to see you succeed and people who will celebrate small wins with you when you get them.
Trust your instincts
You are your baby’s mother and you know best. This is something which you need to remember every day because as a mother you will gain a lot of unsolicited advice from people in your life and even from strangers. As soon as a baby is in the picture everyone will suddenly tell you how to live your life and this is something you can’t allow to happen. Stick to your guns and trust in your own ability to tell what is right and wrong for your child. You know best and this is something which can give you a lot of confidence.
Create a good skin routine
Skincare might be the last thing on your mind after having a baby, but if you want to feel confident and beautiful this is an essential part of your daily routine. Even if you can only spare 10 minutes a day, washing your face and applying some toner and moisturizer can make a huge difference to your skin. You’ll glow and your skin will be healthier which will make you look great even when you aren’t wearing any makeup!
Wear easy hairstyles
The Mom hairstyle of the year has to be the messy bun, but this doesn’t have to be the case and you can still have a pretty braid or soft waves with minimal effort. At night make sure to braid your hair and sleep with it up, in the morning you can leave this in or take it out and reveal some soft waves which will make you look ready for the day ahead without even trying.
Know that everyone has bad days
There is no such thing as a perfect mother, and if someone tries to convince you otherwise they are lying! We are all only human and every new Mom is scared out of her mind when a baby arrives. The important thing to remember is that mistakes will happen and it isn’t the end of the world. Sometimes you will wake up in a bad mood and spill the formula and drop the toys… and this is totally normal. Don’t ever put yourself down for having a bad day because honestly, it would be weirder if you didn’t have a bad day. Take each day as it comes and ask your family or friends to help out if you feel like you need a break.
