Five Tips for Pet Care When You Are on Vacation

Chances are that when you first chose to get a pet, your first thought wasn’t about what you would do with them when you go on vacation.

pet careMore likely you imagined going for long walks in the park together, evening cuddles on the sofa and enjoying the kind of unconditional and unwavering love that only a pet can provide.

However, now that you have your own little ball of fur or four-legged friend, you are probably experiencing that uncomfortable and anxious feeling in your stomach about where they are going to go when you are on vacation.

Keep reading to discover the most popular methods of pet care that pet owners choose when they are on vacation that should help you make the right choice for you and your pet.

Pick a pet sitter

This option is a particularly good idea for cats, but can work well for other animals too. You can either look for a professional pet sitter or you can try to enlist the help of a family member or close friend to visit your home regularly while you are away to feed and walk your pet.

This can also deter thieves as it will make your property look less empty.

Sebastian Suning HimselfNegotiate with neighbors

If you have neighbors that you are friendly with and who have pets themselves, it can be a good idea to reach out to them to discuss looking after each other’s pets while each of you are on vacation.

You could even start a Facebook group in your neighborhood for pet owners and see if there is anyone else close by who would be interested in a pet swap.

Choose a cattery or kennels

Although this can be an expensive option, local catteries and kennels offer your dog or cat a safe place to stay while you are on vacation, plus there’s the chance to socially interact with other animals.

If you do choose this option for your pet, you need to ensure that all their vaccinations are up to date before you drop them off. Choose a reputable vets such as Heart + Paw veterinary that provides compassionate care for your beloved pet. They even have their own team of stylists so you can treat your pet to a make-over upon your return.

Pamper at a pet hotel

If you think that your pet deserves a vacation just as much as you, and you have the funds to treat them to a luxury experience, why not consider booking them into a pet hotel? Many offer actual rooms and beds for your pet rather than a just a kennel or small space, as well as other treats such as on-site grooming, swimming and trained vets to administer any medications that your pet may need.

LuminouslyTake your pet with you

Your final option if you really don’t feel comfortable leaving your pet for any great length of time is to take them on vacation with you. There are hundreds of pet-friendly hotels and resorts across the country, or you could choose to rent an RV and go camping – your dog would love all the woods and open spaces they could explore.
