The day has finally arrived! Forever My Girl is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray! It’s time to gather up your girlfriends for an afternoon of fun and relaxation and a good movie. And I have a few tips to help get you in the southern mood.
Forever My Girl takes place in the south, Liam and Josie are in love and about to get married. But Liam has a singing career and he’s just made it big. He doesn’t show up for the wedding. Liam left Josie at the altar! That’s how Forever My Girl starts. Right off the bat you are crushed, Josie is crushed. Fast forward 8 years.
Liam is still a hot mess. He’s drinking and sleeping with groupies and cut off from his family. He’s a disaster and those around him just seem to let him do as he pleases as long as he shows up and performs. But then, after a one night stand, the girl accidentally steps on Liam’s phone and he freaks out. He’s just heard a news report of his best friend passing away. Liam grabs the phone and runs out the hotel room searching for the nearest phone store to get it repaired.
The next thing we know, Liam is heading home. It’s a whirlwind. You can tell that Liam left Louisiana like a tornado and there are not too many people happy with his return. He attends his best friends funeral and runs into Josie and her 7-year-old daughter. They reconnect, well, Josie punches him in the stomach and walks away. It’s a connection, just maybe not the one Liam was hoping for.
I’m not going to spoil the rest of the movie, but if you loved The Notebook and enjoy reading Nicholas Sparks books you will love Forever My Girl. So gather up your gal pals and get ready for a great evening. Here are a few drink ideas to enjoy together.
Smooth Sweet Tea –
1 pinch Baking Soda
2 cups boiling water
6 tea bags
3/4 c white sugar
6 c cold water
Sprinkle the baking soda into a 64 ounce, heatproof, glass pitcher. Pour in the boiling water and add the tea bags. Cover the pitcher and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Remove the tea bags, add sugar and stir until dissolved. Then pour in cold water and refrigerate until cold.
Classic White Wine Spritzer
1/2 c Club Soda
1 c White Wine
Pour the wine into a glass and then add the club soda.
Old-Fashioned Lemonade
6 Large Lemons
1 c White Sugar
6 c Cold Water
You’re going to have to put a little work into this one! Juice all 6 lemons, be careful to get the seeds out. You’ll need 1 full cup of lemon juice so you may need less or more lemons. Next, in a gallon pitcher combine the lemon juice, sugar, and water. Stir and taste test! You may need a little more lemon or sugar.
Mint Juleps
2 c Water
2 c White Sugar
1/2 c Fresh Mint Leaves chopped
32 ounces Kentucky Bourbon
8 Sprigs Fresh Mint
In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar and chopped mint leaves. Bring to a boil and continue boiling over high heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove from burner and cool for about 1 hour. Next, pour the mixture through a strainer to capture all the mint leaves. Line up 8 cups, fill with crushed ice, pour 4 ounces of Kentucky Bourbon in each and 1/4 c of the syrup that we made. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
Those are just a few of the drink ideas to help get you in the southern mood.
You could also make a little sundae station too! I know I like ice cream when I’m watching a movie. Gather a few toppings, bowls and ice cream and you are set to have a great time!
I watched Forever My Girl with my gal pals and loved it. It’s love story that will touch your heart.
