Sometimes trying to explain germs to little ones can be difficult. It’s hard for them to wrap their heads around something they cannot see with their own eyes. Well not anymore! GIANTmicrobes help teach little ones about the various microbes there are in the world with plushies that are a million times the actual size of the microbe! Children can grasp the concept a little better when they can touch it with their own hands.
There are dozens of different microbes available to purchase online but I’m going to tell you about a few of them.
Tooth (Molar)
The plush tooth comes with fun facts on it’s tag and a zippered pouch you can use to keep things in. Some may want to use this as a tooth fairy pillow.
Fun fact :
Humans have four types of teeth and this one is specifically a molar. The molar got its name from the Latin phrase ‘dens molaris‘ which means millstone tooth. This is similar to the English nickname wisdom teeth. They are commonly called this because the molars appear much later than other teeth, typically after childhood. They come in at an age when people are presumably wiser. Hopefully, as a young adult, you are more knowledgeable, insightful and prudent. At least your teeth may be more sharp, grasping and reflective if you care for them!
Brain Cell (Neuron)
There are over a million neurons in your brain. What better way to congratulate a graduate then giving them a gift card with a brain cell. Each brain cell comes with a tag explaining exactly what brain cells are and what their job is.
Fun Fact :
Neurons can’t regrow after damage, but new connections between neurons form throughout life.
Common Cold (Rhinovirus)
This little guy could come in handy when trying to explain the common cold to little ones.
Fun Fact :
In the United States, the common cold leads to 75–100 million physician visits annually at a conservative cost estimate of $8 billion per year. Americans spend $3 billion on over-the-counter drugs and another $400 million on prescription medicines for symptomatic relief.
There are 200 different viruses that cause the common cold; rhinoviruses are the most common culprit.
There are dozens more educational plushies available at GIANTmicrobes.
