Your senior year is your last chance to soak in those memories of childhood before embarking on a whole new phase of life. It’s also when you have the hardest classes you’ve taken so far, with impending deadlines, tests, and projects to contend with – projects that all play a huge part in what university you end up going to.
The good news is that there are several great tips and tricks to make your senior year extra special, all while respecting the time and energy it takes to perform well in school and your extracurriculars:
Use Organizers to Stay on Top of Everything
There are advanced student planner apps out there that allow you to stay on top of every project, deadline, and even social commitments in one sheet. It’s essentially bringing workplace productivity into your high school career. Use it to help you better manage your time, and spread out activities evenly so that you can more comfortably have it all.
Work on the Yearbook
One of the best ways to really get to know people, make memories, and get involved with your school is to work on the yearbook. You can find high school yearbooks online for inspiration, upload your class’s own, and take the conversation from written notes in the margins to a school-wide digital experience. There are so many benefits to working on the yearbook, so if you ever felt like you missed out on any club, join the yearbook. You’ll get to engage with every social club, project, and more.
Plan a Senior Year Trip with Your Friends
If your school doesn’t organize a senior year trip themselves, organize it. You can make this year-wide and collaborate with the school, or you can keep it just between you and your friends. It can be something as small as a trip to the beach or a camping trip, or it could be an even bigger vacation abroad for spring break. Don’t worry if the trip needs to follow after graduation, either, as the summer following your senior year is just as important for memory-making.
Attend All the School Events
If you really want to make high-school-specific memories, attend all the events. Be there for the athletic events, the Homecoming dance or Prom, the football games, and of course, any plays or concerts. It’s an easy way to feel the school spirit and really make your senior year that quintessentially memorable experience. Your future self will thank you!
Take More Pictures (and Do More with Them!)
Photos and videos are the best way to capture any memory. If you’re a photographer for the school yearbook, then you’re already set. If not, then aim to take more pictures and memories of everything and anything.
The trick, of course, is to do more with them. Go through and actually curate the photos you take, edit them so that they look their best, and even consider doing more with them. Send them in to the yearbook committee, or have them printed so you can give them to your friends. These are invaluable keepsakes you will cherish.
Journal
One last thing you can and should do to make your senior year more special is to start journaling. Get all your thoughts, worries, hopes, and dreams out on paper. It’s an excellent way to be kinder to your mental health while also acting as the ultimate time capsule of the year. You could even write your future self a letter!
