How to Restart Your Career When You’ve Raised Kids

While you’ve been spending years raising children and investing all of your very best into them, they’re going to get increasingly independent as the years go by.

Sooner or later, you might find that you have a bit more time on your hands – perhaps they started school a while ago and are old enough to look after themselves for a few hours, or maybe they have grown out of all the supervision a long time ago.

Nonetheless, it’s a great idea to refocus a bit and start to work on a different project, namely yourself. Luckily, it’s not necessarily that difficult to get started with your career again even if you’ve been a stay-at-home mom for years already, and you don’t necessarily have to buy into an MLM scheme either.

Here is a handful of great and credible ways to get back into your career when you’ve been busy doing other things so that you can get everything you want out of life.

First: Use the Internet

While it may sound tough to just apply for jobs and hope that they call you in for a job interview, the chances are rather high that they’re going to choose someone with more experience than you. Let’s face it; a candidate who just left another job in the same field is going to have a bit more to offer, at least as far as they’re concerned.

That’s why you should try to give yourself a head start by either taking a couple of niche online courses in order to stand out a bit or, in fact, take an entire degree online.

The great thing about doing your Master through an online course is that you’ll still find time to care for other things and you won’t feel like you constantly have to catch up with yourself by stressing back and forth from class.

Check out this advanced online msw program, for example, and you’ll both increase your salary once you get a job and be a much better candidate on the job market.

Next: Focus on networking

A high education and an excellent degree will definitely help you out a lot, but nothing can boost your career like those you know. Networking may sound awkward and unnatural but it is, in fact, one of the most natural things about advancing your career; make some new friends, get to know others, and expand your horizon within your field of work.

When you have someone who can vouch for your sense of responsibility and your skills, the employer will be much more likely to call you in for an interview than those who have no direct recommendations. Plus, it saves him or her a lot of time in terms of working through each candidate – and you’ll have a much better chance at the positions that are only open for applications from within the company.

Getting back out there and starting a brand new job can be a bit frightening but, when you think about it, this will only last for a little while. Before you know it, you’ll have settled in and found your rhythm again – and your kids can look even more up to their kickass career mommy.
