I am so bored is a phrase I frequently hear on the weekends. Peyton will wander out of her room and mumble how bored she is and ask me for something to do. Well, she doesn’t necessarily like my ideas! Because I tell her to pick up her toys or do her homework. Instead, she mopes around the house until she finds something to do or she lays on the couch until I tell her to move. When we read the story I Am So Bored! by Henrike Wilson it reminded me of Peyton!
In I Am So Bored! Baby Bear is looking for something to do. Mama Bear does not have time to play with him. In fact, no one has time. Everyone is busy doing one thing or another. So Baby Bear starts to wander through the woods. He has no particular direction or destination in mind, he’s just wandering aimlessly. Then, he just flops on his belly! Right there in the middle of the woods. As he lays there, still bored, he notices something. It’s a mole! Baby Bear gets up to investigate. And while he’s investigating he sees a bird. Now, Baby Bear has something to do!
When Baby Bear wanders home at the end of the day he has solved the problem to his boredom. From now on, when he’s bored, he will just lay there and wait for something or someone to happen across his path!
I Am So Bored! was originally written in German by Henrike Wilson and translated by Connie Stradling Morby. All the artwork you see throughout the story was created by Henrike Wilson. The story is geared towards children ages 3-6 years old.
We found, I Am So Bored!, to be a cute story. Peyton enjoyed reading how someone else could be as bored as she is! She thought Baby Bear was ingenious on finding out ways to cure boredom. Now, Peyton would like to go flop on her belly in the backyard and see what she can find!
