Before I became a mom, I loved zipping around in my car. It had a sunroof, spoiler and it was a hot little number. But fast forward to having a baby in tow and suddenly my hot little number didn’t feel so hot or fun anymore. Trying to fit a car seat in the back seat was my first clue that this car thing was not going to work out for us. It literally meant that half my car was unusable! I had to move the front passenger seat all the way to the dash making it impossible for anyone to sit up there. And I knew I did not want to sit in the front seat, by myself, for the next however many years while my partner rode in the back seat with the baby. So I headed to the dealership to checkout SUVs and see what options I had.
At first, I contemplated buying a bigger car. Mine was pretty small so I thought about getting a full size, but when I started to mentally layout the car I started to have the same space issues. By the time the stroller was in the trunk I was out of trunk space. The only thing I gained was maybe being able to have someone seat in the front seat with me, but I wanted more. More space!
So, I took a peek at an SUV. There was a huge difference in space. I could easily fit the car seat in the back seat and have plenty of room for someone to sit up front with me! And still plenty of room in the back seat for my purse, diaper bag and whatever else I needed to bring with me. The trunk had ample space for a stroller and plenty left over for groceries! No more cramming all the groceries in the car and hoping the doors close!
For us, I knew upgrading to an SUV was best. Not only did it give us more space but it gave me back our social life. No more having to take two cars to family events, everyone could fit in one! And now, Peyton is a little older, no longer in a car seat but we have dogs. The dogs love sitting in the cargo area and coming with on trips! Switching to an SUV really was the best decision for our family.
