We are big readers in our house. Peyton has so many books we are looking at getting a THIRD bookshelf! But I don’t mind. I much rather she be reading a book or have a book read to her than watching tv or playing with an electronic device. So when I was asked if I would like to review a new children’s book, “Let’s Change That! If Animals Can, We Can Too!” of course I said yes. I didn’t even know what it was about just that it was a kids book and that’s all I needed to know.
When Let’s Change That! If Animals Can, We Can Too! arrived Peyton snatched it right out of the envelope and took off to her reading nook. The illustrations on the cover caught her attention instantly. So when I finally got her to let me look at the book I was pleasantly surprised. This is a book about teaching compassion! Throughout the story the animals learn that just because they are different it’s a bad thing. Or just because one person is being mean to another doesn’t mean everyone has to follow. It’s great! Bashar Salame takes difficult topic and situations and expresses them with animals and words a child can understand. Rainer Osinger does an amazing job and bring the words alive through the illustrations.
My daughter really enjoyed this book. The colorful pages full of animals really grabbed her attention. We’ve read it a few times and everytime we do she takes away something different. Or she see’s something new. It’s been a great book to help facilitate conversation between us on behavior. Let’s Change That! If Animals Can, We Can Too! is a exceptional book at helping children understand complex topics from a child’s point of view.
