Making Family Life Fun: Hobbies For The Whole Family

Far too many parents stick their kids in front of tablets or games consoles and allow them to spend their free time immersed in the virtual world. These devices might be all well and good for short periods of time, but allowing your little ones to spend hours and hours on them can have a detrimental effect on behavior, in addition to having quality family time.

A great way to ensure that when you and your children are both free, you are spending quality time together, is to introduce hobbies that you can do as a family. This doesn’t mean the regular things like baking, playing sports and doing jigsaw puzzles, it’s about finding new and interesting hobbies to do together. Things that not only will your children love to do, but things that the whole family can do together.

Want some ideas and inspiration? Read on for a few hand-picked ideas that are ideal for parent-child bonding and a whole lot of quality time.

Do your kids love nature?

Does your family love nature? If the answer is yes then one of these hobby ideas could be perfect for doing together. One option is nature photography. It’s fun, educational and anyone of any age can do it – even little ones. All you need to do is buy a kids’ camera, that’s all. You will find some amazing camera options online for kids if you take the time to look.

Not a huge fan of photography? What about horse riding instead? For kids who are nature mad and love being outdoors it’s the perfect hobby. What’s great about this hobby is that as well as getting your kids lessons, you can also plan family riding adventures, such as going on horse riding trails together.

Tiger Face PaintingAre your kids collector mad?

Have you noticed that your kids love to collect things? Whether it’s stones they find while out and about or stamps off of letters, a perfect hobby to start could be collecting-related. This can be something that the whole family does together and can enjoy.

For kids who are interested in cars and planes, then collecting vintage models or collecting model making kits and making your own could be a great option.

Or, for kids with an aptitude for history, how about starting a coin collection? There’s no better way to explore the past than with the coins from it. In addition to selecting modern ones to collect, like the New Zealand Mints Darth Vader Silver Coin, for instance.

Howlers Peak Ropes CourseActivities for thinkers

Does your child love to think? If they have active minds then playing chess could be a good hobby to start. Chess requires a certain mindset and discipline, but once you have that, you can play for life.

Another option could be creating stories or doing crosswords. If your child has a mind that never turns off and they always like to be thinking, then these kinds of activities could be ideal. Learning a language could be another option, especially if you have younger children. They say kids’ minds are like sponges and this is why younger kids learn new languages more easily.

There are lots of hobbies that you and your children can do and enjoy together; it’s just a case of finding the one that works for your family. Take your time, try out different things, and you’re sure to find that perfect hobby.
