Minimizing Screen Time In Your Household

If there’s one thing that’s evident today, it’s that screen time is taking priority over things like reading, taking time to enjoy hobbies, playing outside, exercising, and so much more. It really is taking over the lives of both adults and children alike.

By taking the time to minimize screen time in your household, you’ll raise healthier, happier children who know the importance of spending time doing the things they love – and that involves spending time in the real world. Living in the moment. Not staring at a screen and living their lives through somebody else, whether that’s somebody they used to know at school or an influencer that they are keen on following.

Some screen time is fine, but spending too much time in front of a screen can be seriously detrimental to both physical and mental health. Here’s how you can start minimizing screen time in your household.

Tropical Color RunTalk To Your Kids About Living Healthy Lifestyles

The best thing you can do is talk to your kids about the importance of living healthy lifestyles. The earlier you do this the better. However, you need to choose your words carefully so as not to give them a complex. Make sure they know how important it is to connect with people in real life, to get outside and play and have fun, and to do things away from the screen.

Set Your Own Example

The thing is, you can talk to your kids as much as you like, as outlined above, but you must be prepared to set your own example. Your kids will want to be like you, and they are going to learn their behaviors from you. Whether you like it or not, this is what they’ll do. Spend as little time in front of a screen as you can. Make sure you’re showing them that staying active is fun, and that there are lots of things to do away from a screen.

Give Them Fun Things To Do Away From A Screen

There are so many fun things to do away from a screen, so make sure they have options. Treat them to some drawing and painting materials, for example, or buy them an instrument and give them sites like MuscianAuthority.com so they can learn to play some of their favorites. They’ll improve a number of their skills and have lots of fun.

Make sure you don’t have screens in every room – you especially shouldn’t be having them in their bedrooms. Watching TV in bed can be very damaging to a child’s sleeping pattern, and affect their school work substantially, too. Even the light and waves emitted from the TV can affect them. They don’t have to be watching it.

Spend More Quality Time Together As A Family

Make sure you spend lots of quality time together as a family. Play games, eat dinner together, and sit and talk when you’re focusing on nothing but each other. It’ll be very good for your bond as a family!
