Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use any brownie mix?
Yes, but a fudge brownie mix gives the richest texture.
Why are my cookies flat?
Brownie cookie dough naturally spreads more than traditional cookie dough. Chilling the dough can help if needed.
Can I freeze the dough?
Yes! Scoop the dough first, then freeze. Bake directly from frozen, adding 1–2 extra minutes.
Can I make these without M&M’s?
Absolutely. Replace them with extra chocolate chips or your favorite baking mix-ins.
Why add M&M’s after baking?
Pressing extra candies into the tops while the cookies are still warm gives them a colorful bakery-style appearance.

Patriotic Brownie Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 box Brownie Mix
- 2 large Eggs
- 1/4 C Vegetable Oil
- 1/4 C Flour
- 3/4 C Chocolate Chips
- 1 C Patriotic M&Ms
Instructions
- I like to use a brownie mix that is a fudge brownie but does not require you to do a mix-in for the fudge. We are only using the brownie mix so be sure to get one that does not have extra mix-ins needed. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. Pour the brownie mix into a large bowl. Add the eggs, vegetable oil, and flour to the bowl and mix until well combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and patriotic M&Ms.Take a medium cookie scoop and scoop the dough onto the baking sheet. These cookies will spread a little so space them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 9-11 minutes. Remove the cookies from the oven and immediately place additional M&Ms on top. Let cook on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then move them to a cooling rack to finish cooling. Enjoy! Store any left cookies in an air-tight container. They will last for about a week.
