S’mores Pretzel Rods

We are having a campfire themed birthday for Peyton! I’m taking her and three of her friends to Great Wolf Lodge for a weekend of laughter, water slides, and fun.  Instead of doing a traditional birthday cake, Peyton requested that I make some camping themed treats. Or what she called them – campfire treats.  The most traditional campfire treat is s’mores. m It’s a staple for any camping trip. So I’m making a little twist to this traditional treat and making s’mores pretzel rods.

S'mores Pretzel RodsTo make these s’mores pretzel rods you will need the following –

1 pkg Milk Chocolate Chips
Pretzel Rods
Marshmallow Bits
Graham Crackers

These treats are quick and easy to make. I was easily able to make a dozen of them but it really depends on how thick your chocolate is on the pretzel rods.

First, place some graham crackers in a plastic bag and crush them. I took a rolling pin and smashed the graham crackers until I had some that were bigger chunks and some that were fine crumbs. Once the crackers are crushed, spread them out on a plate so you can roll your pretzel rod across them.

Next, spread some of the marshmallow bits on a second plate.

Now it’s time to melt the chocolate. Be sure to reserve a handful of chips for decoration.

Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe dish and melt in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Be sure to stir in between every 30 seconds. Be careful to not overheat the chocolate. You can also melt the chocolate using a double boiler method. Both work equally well.

Once the chocolate is melted and smooth it’s time to dip the pretzel rod into the milk chocolate.  Shake off any excess chocolate.

Next, roll the pretzel rod in the graham crackers.

S'mores Pretzel RodsThen roll the pretzel rod in the marshmallow bits.

Finally, place a few milk chocolate chips on the pretzel rod.

Place the pretzel rods on a piece of wax paper and let the chocolate cool.

S'mores Pretzel RodsOnce the chocolate is cooled you can either store each pretzel rod in an individual plastic sleeve or place in an airtight container. I wanted mine to look rustic so I used a little kitchen twine to tie the plastic sleeves shut.
